Les Girouettes

A comfortable and stylish room in an old French country house, enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside and yet only a short distance from a picturesque medieval town. We have undertaken to apply Air BNB's Covid-19 cleaning guidelines, please see further details in the house manual section. The bedroom is on the 1st floor, with double bed and ample storage space. The bathroom is adjacent, on the landing, and is for your use only. We provide a breakfast using local produce. and will do our best to meet any dietary preferences. If you would like to use our kitchen please le us know at time of booking. In addition to their bedroom and bathroom , guests have access to the dining room. They will find a kettle and coffee machine and can help themselves to tea, coffee and chocolate at any time. The garden is also available for sitting out and is equipped with chairs and sun loungers. If you need to store food and drinks or ice packs we are happy to provide space in our fridge. We live at the house and will be on hand to help with all your enquiries on the spot. We know the local area well, and are happy to give suggestions and advice that will help make the most of your stay in this beautiful part of France. Our house is situated in a tranquil hamlet, a few kilometres from the lively town of St. Jean d'Angely, with its twice weekly market, wealth of historic medieval buildings and great choice of restaurants. The old Roman city of Saintes is just a twenty minute drive away, as is the world famous town of Cognac. The Atlantic coast beaches and the beautiful towns of Rochefort, La Rochelle and Royan are also within easy reach. Our house is very near to the pilgrim's route to Saint Jacques de Compostella. There are many lovely countryside walks that you can do from our doorstep. Wildlife is in abundance, and you may expect to see hares, deer, hoopoes, and kites. St. Jean d'Angely has a train station and is on the line connecting Niort to Saintes. There are very few buses. There are flights from the UK to La Rochelle (1 hour by car) and Bordeaux (1 1/2 hours)
