Take a relaxing break at our modern bungalow in the beautiful Shropshire Hills. Whether you’re after fabulous walks with stunning scenery, or heart pounding mountain bike trails, Taumata makes an ideal base. Alternatively, for a less strenuous break, pretty market towns and picturesque villages are all within easy reach. Enjoy your breakfast while taking in the lovely views across to Long Mountain on the Welsh border. We'll do everything we can to ensure you enjoy your stay with us. You'll find Taumata just 30 minutes south of Shrewsbury. We are in a rural location. This means there are no street lights so when it gets dark - its dark...a star gazers paradise. During the day you'll likely see buzzards and red kites which are commonly seen in the area. Although we're in the countryside, you won't be roughing it...this isn't a farm cottage...its a contemporary bungalow. The accommodation itself comprises a carpeted en-suite double room which is situated at the far end of our bungalow (which can be accessed via a separate entrance). It has lovely views of the garden and up to the chimney on Resting Hill, which lies along the Shropshire Way. You are very welcome to use the garden where you can sit out and enjoy a few drinks in the early evening during the warmer months. The room has a double bed which is suitable for single guests or couples. If you’re looking for a place to holiday with your pets and/or children, sorry this is not the right place for you. The room has Freeview TV, excellent wifi connection and USB charging point for your devices. Depending on when you arrive, there are various options for an evening meal. The local pub has a varied menu and and runs a great quizz night on the last Monday of the month... and the locals are very friendly and will make you feel welcome. There is a selection of sit down restaurants or take aways within easy driving distance including Indian, Chinese, pizza or fish and chips. A range of breakfast options are available so let us know when you arrive. As far as what to do while you're here - this is a great base for walkers. The Shropshire Way passes quite near the house or there's loads of other walks for all abilities - from a gentle stroll through Eastridge Woods (which is just 5 minutes from the back gate) to longer walks along the Stiperstones and Long Mynd. If two wheels is more your thing, you'll find a great range of BMX trails nearby. Snailbeach is also the site of Britain's best preserved lead mine. When the mine is open there is no charge for looking around the site or buildings but a small charge is made for a fascinating guided tour of the underground workings. This usually takes place on the first Sunday of the month between May - October. Taumata makes an ideal base for exploring the market towns of Ludlow, Bishop Castle, Church Stretton, Bridgenorth, Montgomery and of course Shrewsbury. Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden and patio areas at both front and rear. There's a tea/coffee station in the room and bottled water which you're welcome to take on you walks. Breakfast is served at the dining table with lovely views across to the Welsh border. There's loads of parking and a lockable garage where bikes can be safely stored overnight if you're arriving on two wheels. We'll make you feel welcome and are on hand to answer any questions about the area or offer suggestions for things to see or do. This is our home so we are usually around somewhere. That said we respect your privacy so you are free to come and go as you please but we are on hand if you need us.
