Normand Thatched Cottage - The Blue Room
A cottage get-away in the French country side. I acquired this house with the intention of creating a weekend haven to escape from the bustle of work and city life. I loved it so much that I become a traditional roof thatcher and now live here full time! There's lots to do and see but you can also just enjoy the comfort of the house: relaxing in the garden and sauna, cooking up something delicious from a farmers market, curling up in front of the fireplace with a book from the library, ... Built in 1786, the cottage is a typical example of a farm house for the region. I completely renovated the home in 2010 using natural materials and furnished the rooms mostly with antic furniture. I am currently redoing myself the thatched roof. My home is your home, so please feel at ease to use the kitchen, living and dining room, the garden and sauna. There is a separate fridge for guests in the kitchen. It is a large house for me alone so I’m always happy when there are guests. During the week I am at school or at work. On the weekend I tend to go out quite a bit but I am always available by phone. The house is in a little village and I have neighbours on two sides. You can hear the roosters in the morning (and sometimes the dogs). At night owls perch in the trees. The village is located just a 25 minutes drive from the coast with touristic cities like Dieppe, Veules-les-roses and further on Fécamp and Etretat. Rouen, the capital of Normandy, is a 40 minute drive away and has an beautiful town center. There are lot of local activities, just to name a few: restaurants, markets, hiking, sailing, gardens & parks, castles, ... Unique to the region is the Canadian Farm "Rêve de Bisons" with a buffalo herd and wolf pack that one can visit. One really needs a car to visit the region. The nearest train station with regular stops is Auffay (15 minutes drive from the cottage). Parking is not a problem. There are no shops in the village but lots of shops all around in the neighboring villages not to mention daily famer markets. The house is not really set up for infants/toddlers but children are welcome. There are a variety of board games upstaires, they can play in the garden and there is a park infront of the house as well.
