Find your spot and relax and enjoy a cold beer or Rum Punch from our Honor Bar. there are so many areas to spread out that you can always find a private spot; but you can also hang out and meet the other guests. There are 5 large decks, a Salt Pool, a Pool area, pool floaties, an outdoor Kitchen and BBQ Grills, outdoor dining areas, Lounge chairs, Hammocks, outdoor gym area. This is a great location for healthy minded travelers - you can even jog to the beach. Our rooms are clean, happy, efficient and a little funky. We are not a 5-star hotel but you will be comfortable and will have everything you need to enjoy your stay. Our property has steps up to beds, the lofts have ladders so some rooms might not be suitable for guests with injuries or physical limitations. We have other guests, so you will hear and see other people - we have plenty of room to chill out somewhere in solitude or hang out and meet the others. we ask that everyone be respectful in every way. This is not a place to get rowdy and unruly. Chickens run free around the island and you will hear them. Sometimes you'll hear them crowing in the early morning hours, sigh, sorry there's nothing we can do about that other than give you earplugs. Which we did. There are earplugs in each room. BTW- the chickens are government protected so don't mess with them. Oh, sometimes you can hear music and partying from Red Hook. If that sounds cool to you, enjoy. If it sounds terrible to you, we have earplugs ;-) located at the edge of popular fishing town, Red Hook and Red Hook Bay, you are a short walk to Secret Harbor Beach, Vessup Beach Ritz Carlton Beach, Bars, Restaurants, Moe's Grocery (you're going to love Moe's), ATM's, Nail Salon, ferry (takes you to St John), medical clinic, postal service, safari route, smoothie stand, coffee stand, gas station and more. A little bit further down the road takes you to Cowpet Bay, Elysian Resort, Ritz Carlton, Yacht Club Lindquist Beach, Sapphire Beach, Scott's Beach, Compass Point Marina, Mangrove Eco Tours, Food Center just to name a few.... Reminder - if you're renting a car during your stay please let us know so we can give you your designated parking spot. PS - people drive on the opposite side of the street here – be careful! PSS - We don't have sidewalks, not just our location, but no neighborhood on the island has sidewalks. located in quiet neighborhood of popular East End of St Thomas near the bustling Red Hook area. You will be with in a 15 minute walk to restaurants, bars, live music, grocery shopping, gift shopping, Red Hook Marina, Fishing charters, snorkeling charters, St John Ferry and Beaches. Safari (local bus system) Route is located a couple blocks away. Make sure you have cash. the Safari will take you around the main loop of the island, so you can easily explore other places. There are no sidewalks in the neighborhood. Chickens roam the island, so they will visit our place occasionally. Walk down the street to Vessup or Ritz beaches 10 minute walk or to Secret Harbor Beach 15 minutes. Red Hook and ferry terminal 10 to 15 minute walk. NOTE-THE AREA DOES NOT HAVE SIDEWALKS. YOU WILL BE SHARING THE ROAD WITH CARS AND CHICKENS. Safari Route - picks you up at the corner of hwy 23 & hwy 322 (THEY ONLY TAKE CASH) Rent a Car - you can park it at the house. but let us know please. CAUTION - THEY DRIVE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE STREET FROM MAINLAND! RULES, RULES, RULES…………. 1. "Be Respectful"! That’s simple, right? If you do not honor our rules; aren't kind to others; are looking for trouble you should BOOK ELSEWHERE. This property won’t be a fit. You will be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY if you are belligerent or disrespectful, especially to other guests. 2. Report Accurate number of guests checking in. We will not tolerate DISHONEST guests checking in with more than the allowed occupancy of each room. This is NOT OK. We have a limit on the number of guests in each unit because YOUR COMFORT is important to us. WE ARE NOT A SPRING BREAK MOTEL. If more guests show up than in the booking, you will not be allowed to check in. PERIOD. BOOK ELSEWHERE. 3. VESSUP VACATION RENTAL GUESTS are only allowed at this property. THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY. If we discover (we have cameras, neighbors, property manager & we live here too) NON-Guests hanging out at this property THEY ARE TRESPASSING. If you invite NON-Guests to enjoy the amenities, facility or Honor Bar you will be asked to Check Out Immediately, this is against our rules. Leave it to a few ‘bad” guests who have invited other a-holes to the property to be very disruptive, create a mess, break things, party till 4am, etc....THIS IS NOT OK. We will not tolerate this type of behavior. Not only will this be documented via camera, reported to cops and AIRBNB, but you will be asked to leave property. We want you to enjoy yourself fully, but not at the expense of others. If you do not agree, BOOK ELSEWHERE PLEASE! 4. NO GLASS in OR AROUND THE POOL. No Exceptions! You will be asked to leave if you do and fined. Also, if you break glass in the pool you will be charged $5,000 cleaning/refill fee. YES, $5K. That's how much it costs to clean, drain and refill the Pool!!! (WATER is EXPENSIVE HERE!) SO, PLEASE NO GLASS in Pool Area. WE REALLY DON’T WANT TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. I repeat NO GLASS in or around the POOL! 5. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING INSIDE! There are several designated outdoor smoking areas. If you smoke in your room you will be asked to leave. 6. PLEASE, PLEASE, BE MINDFUL OF POWER USAGE! We pay the highest in the Nation and America for power. It's extremely expensive and we are happy to offer you A/C but we ask when NOT IN THE UNIT PLEASE TURN the AIR CONDITIONER OFF. We would like to continue to offer the lowest rates possible for all our units. This is ONLY possible if we are mindful. 7. CHECK weather if travelling August-November----HURRICANE SEASON 8. PLEASE read over our cancelation policy. We HONOR our policy. Ask us for questions. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND investing in Traveler's Insurance, especially during Hurricane season. ISLAND LIFE FACTS AND TIPS…………………. This place is NOT like the mainland. We drive on the opposite side of the street. Take care and look both ways when crossing the street and be careful if you’re behind the wheel. Luckily, people drive slow here. Actually, they do everything pretty slow here. EVERYTHING is shipped in here; so, resources are limited. You might not find your favorite brands but I’m sure you’ll find a something just as good…. Just, different. Ironically, water is scarce on the island. Most water is literally captured from the sky and stored in cisterns; it is a limited resource so please use it sparingly and keep showers brief. Electricity, which is generated on Island, is ridiculously expensive. We have solar panels which help, but we ask that you TURN OFF your lights and AC when stepping out for the day. Help conserve water and electricity. This property is in Red Hook (a small bustling tourist town) You may hear some noise from Red Hook, especially on weekends. You may hear noise from other guests staying at this property, there are 6 total units. There are bands that play at open air bars and the sound can travel across the bay. We personally enjoy the music! Also, there are wild chickens EVERYWHERE on the Island. We cannot control when they "crow" or make noise and it is illegal for us to handle or harm them. They are a part of the Flora and Fauna here. We have provided ear plugs in all our units for your comfort. During power outages you will hear generators running to provide power during those times, this is across the entire island. Wi-Fi can be weak or not working at times. If you require solid consistent Wi-Fi, PLEASE BRING A BACK UP PLAN like personal hotspot or Wi-Fi mobile/device. Our island has experienced several major hurricanes in the last few years, some were Category 5’s. This was crippling. Not just for the economy but for the people. We are still recovering, and rebuilding and we have occasional power outages which means the whole island can lose Wi-Fi or power. WE HAVE NO CONTROL over this. If you need help using the Air Conditioner or the remotes, please let us know and we’ll happily walk you through it. Vessup Vacation Rentals is an adult’s only property. We do not have a lifeguard, guests swim at own risk. But we do have floaties! It takes a minute to get hot water. The water travels a little distance from the source/heater. This is a tropical island in the Caribbean, we have bugs here. Especially Mosquitos. If you are sensitive bring bug spray or any personal method to deter them. You will 100% see at least 1 bug during your stay on ANY TROPICAL ISLAND in the Caribbean. Also keep your doors and windows closed during your stay if you do not want any potential bugs to come into your unit. We do offer bug screens on all doors but if you leave them open or prop them open then they do not work. Also, DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OUT because that attracts bugs. We are located near the equator…. that means our sun is intense! Be prepared by using sunscreen often. If you break anything on our property you will be responsible to replace it. Just remember everything costs more money living and visiting in the middle of the Caribbean, about 3 times more than stateside or mainland. That includes food, water, power, gas, transportation, goods, services, etc.…EVERYTHING must be shipped in. Did we mention wear sunscreen...? Please always carry some cash with you, some businesses still ONLY TAKE CASH and no credit cards, like taxi drivers. WE DO NOT HAVE UBER HERE. Please verify taxi rates before you commit to the ride to avoid any potential awkward moments. Mangroves are a critical part of the planet’s ecosystem, providing a habitat for sea life, cleaning the water and the air from Carbons, and protecting the island from Hurricanes. FUN FACT: Just one Mangrove tree can store up to 185 lbs of Carbon per year. Not only are Mangroves responsible for reducing the planets temperature, they’re beautiful to look at. You can find one of the Island’s Mangrove Forests just below the property near the Red Hook marina. Unfortunately, once in a while, when the Mangroves are working especially hard to clean carbon, like after a big storm, they get a little stinky. But fortunately, the westward winds push the “mother nature stank” away from the rental property. But if you do catch it, like on the walk to Red Hook, just know that its mother nature hard at work!
