Large Tuscan house at top of picturesque village in the foothills of the Apuani Alps with parts of the foundations dating back to the 5C, and the majority to the 1600s. The house is fully renovated and has been used by the family over the last 45+ years. Paintings done by the owner can be found in almost every room. You'll enjoy relaxing on either the front terrace with fantastic views over the Garfagnana valley to the Appenini Alps, or in the back garden with vistas on forested hills. The house can sleep up to 11 persons - 4 bedrooms - 2 double beds (4 persons), 2 single beds (2 persons), a bunk bed with trundle bed underneath (3 persons), and 2 sofa beds (4 persons, one sofa bed in the main living room). The smaller living room does have air-conditioning. The house is at the top of the village, with a garage in the nearby piazza. The garage takes cars, not vans. Persons with large cars and vans may prefer to park at the entrance to the village and walk up to the house. We are about an hour from Viareggio (59.7km). We like to take the slightly longer, but much more scenic route, through the mountains and through the marble quarries to Massa di Carrara and have lunch at the Marina Piccola Restaurant in Manarola (Cinque Terre) and return via Lucca for an ice cream. . Some panoramic towns in our area are Castelnuovo, Barga and Bagni di Lucca. The nearest cities are Lucca (34 km / 40 min), Pisa (63 km / 1 h 05), Florence (103 km / 1 h 40) and Siena (170 km / 2 h 10). There are 3 flights of stairs: one to enter the house, one to reach the living level and a third to go up to the 4th bedroom. There are 4 toilets (2 on the bedroom floor, one on the living level and a fourth adjacent to the 4th bedroom). There are several steps up and down in different places on the living level. Persons with limited mobility will likely find house difficult to move around.
