Charming little cottage with a countryside view
The cottage is in the little village of Llangynog near Snowdonia. It’s easy to reach from England and offers great access to the mountains and countryside of north Wales with an easy and scenic drive to Snowdon. The village has two pubs, both just a minute away from the cottage. There are great walks and cycling around Llangynog which is also well known as being the home of Revolution Bike Park. Revs is only minutes away from the cottage by bike and you can see the park from the cottage. There is a king size bed in the upstairs bedroom and a bathroom with bath, toilet, shower and washing machine. In the living room there is a sofa bed that converts easily into a king size double bed. There is also a downstairs toilet room. The fridge in the kitchen is a small table top fridge and there is no freezer so please take care what and how much shopping you bring. There is a Smart TV (but no Sky TV) and a range of books and DVDs available. High speed Wifi is available via a full fibre broadband connection. Guests have access to the whole house, front courtyard garden, and passageway to small rear yard by the back door. Please note, it is a compact little cottage and we do not consider it well suited to guests with small children. There are no stair gates or cots available. If you plan to bring small children with you, we would be happy to explain more. This is to make sure that you are well informed about any limitations so that you and your children can have as safe and comfortable a stay as possible. If you have any questions just ask. For any problems during your stay then I or a friend can normally help you out in person as I live nearby. The area is sometimes referred to as the Welsh lake district as there are several lakes as you make your way into Wales. For mountain bikers, in addition to Revs, Antur Stiniog and Coed y Brenin are both in easy reach by car. Llangynog has free parking just a minute or so away from the cottage. You can park right outside briefly if you need to load or unload. There is a bus service but its probably best to make your own way around. Llangynog has a rich industrial history. Evidence of it still exists today, in particular the old Llangynog Lead Mine that can be seen from the front of the cottage. It’s now part of Revolution Bike Park. A train line used to run to Llangynog and you can see evidence of it if you look carefully. All around are evidence of other mining including slate mines, other lead mines, road stone quarrying, and a silver mine. Some of the mines have extensive cave systems. The largest of these are fenced off but others can be explored. Craig Rhiwarth overlooks Llangynog, and on top is evidence of one of the largest Iron Age settlements with fort in the UK. It’s difficult to see the evidence now, but the view from the top is great. You can also walk across the hills to Llanrhaeadr waterfall from the village. Some walking routes are available on a map by the carpark, but an OS map is very useful if you plan to head off into the hills.
