Perfect Forest Escape
Danby Cottage is located in the Forest of Dean. So close to nature there's a good chance of seeing wild deer right outside the front door! Forest walks, parks, cycle paths, activity centres, craft centres, pubs and places to eat are all within walking distance. After a long day you'll be able to sit back and relax in the garden in the summer, or by the log fire in the winter! Our extended cottage has been designed specifically for family living with a large living dining room. The living dining room has a wonderful pitched ceiling and log burning stove for those winter evenings. Our downstairs and garden are completely accessible to wheelchair users. The cottage is surrounded by forest and there are lovely walks in all directions. The kitchen is well equipped for keen cooks and has a lowered worktop for wheelchair users or young cooks who want to help! The cottage was extended in 2007 and great care was taken to make the whole building sustainable. We won a gold for green tourism which we still maintain. This listing is for the entire 3 bedroom cottage. The cottage is in a very peaceful and quiet setting. The area has a very interesting agricultural and industrial history of which there are many remnants to visit. Puzzle wood was once Roman ironworks, Hopewell coal colliery still welcomes visitors, clear well caves was once the source of ochre used for painting and the Forestry Commission have done much to enhance their sites for visitors, including Go Ape and the Sculpture trail. The Speech house is now a hotel with good grub but was once the Verderers Courthouse. Trains to Lydney station which is 3 miles away.
