Wakehurst is a detached modern house situated in an elevated position in the picturesque village of Noss Mayo. With 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6 comfortably, a lovely large balcony providing panoramic views over the estuary and along the valley, what's not to love! A short flight of steps leads to the front door, which takes you into a small hallway. A good sized bedroom housed with twin beds is on the right and has lovely estuary views. The rest of the accommodation is accessed up another couple of steps - two further bedrooms, one twin, a large family bathroom with bath/shower, and the other bedroom with king-sized bed and an en-suite with shower. All are furnished with wardrobes and chests of drawers. The kitchen and dining area are open plan. Down a few steps and you are in the spacious sitting room with patio doors to the big balcony. The sitting room also has a gas stove, books, games and puzzles - plenty to keep the family amused should the weather be unkind! There is a TV and DVD player plus a DAB radio with Bluetooth. The kitchen is well equipped with a single electric oven and gas hob, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and microwave. Enough crockery and cutlery and glasses for every day use plus cooking utensils etc and storage space, to make it easy to eat in around the farmhouse style table. Off the kitchen is a useful porch - ideal for dog owners, with the back door opening onto the small lawned area on a slope with washing line. The rest of the garden is planted up with shrubs and perennials. Wakehurst is accessed via a short steep driveway (shared with one other house) which takes you up to a double garage with parking bay to one side. We suggest you reverse onto the parking bay which is large enough for a sizeable estate car, as is the garage, although this is more suited to a smaller car. There is also parking up by the church or down by the playing field, if necessary. There is also a useful utility room, plus WC on this level, which is where you will find the washing machine, airing rack, ironing board etc. Space for beach things. Noss Mayo is in the most amazing location right on the River Yealm and within easy access of the South West Coastal Path - ideal for walkers and dog owners. We have 2 wonderful pubs, both located right by the river. The Ship is just down the hill and serves delicious home cooked food as does The Swan, also located just down the hill but on the other side of the creek! Our neighbouring village, Newton Ferrers, a short walk or boat ride away has a small Co-op, s a good butcher, and small Post Office and shop, who also do newspapers. There is also a Pharmacy. There is a well equipped play area and two tennis courts (booked locally) down the road, and of course many wonderful walks along the coast, straight from the property. We have provided local maps and walking ideas for you - found in the sitting room, with other local bits of information on days out etc. Plymouth is only a short drive away with it's fascinating maritime history and range of shops and places to eat out, and the southern edge of Dartmoor only a 20 minute drive away, plus popular destinations such as Salcombe and Dartmouth within easy reach. The local maps will guide you to the nearest beaches. We are so blessed to live in such an area of outstanding natural beauty and if you are planning to come on holiday to the wonderful South Hams you will discover that once isn’t enough – you will want to return year after year. We have beaches in abundance from glorious wide sandy expanses to little bays full of exciting rock pools to explore. Surfers delight in the waves at Bantham whilst paddle boarders enjoy the many estuaries. It’s a paradise for kite surfers, canoeists, sailors, kayakers and fishermen. For those who love to walk and explore, we have Dartmoor, the wild rugged expanse of open moorland with Tors galore; our beautiful Dartmoor ponies and wonderful historic pubs. Hugging our stunning coastline is The famous South West coastal path where you can dip in and out from villages all along the coast. We have Plymouth on the doorstep seeping in history with the historic Mayflower steps where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for North America in 1620 and the infamous Hoe where Drake finished his game of bowls before going out to defeat the Spanish Armada in 1588. The historic Barbican is so vibrant and full of life, wonderful smells, ice cream and fishing boats galore. The Royal William Yard, the Grade 1 former Royal Naval victualling buildings, is a must for foodies with wonderful restaurants such as River Cottage, Prezzo and Wagamamas. For golf lovers we have some of the most spectacular courses set on cliff tops with views to distract even the most hardened players. Running along the stunning coastline of Bigbury Bay, Thurlestone Golf course is a mix of links and cliff-top terrain with the latter providing breath-taking views of the legendary Thurlestone Rock to the East and the beautiful Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the West. The course is one of the most exhilarating with majestic rocky seascapes above the coves where smugglers used to operate. It is also ideal holiday golf - not too severe, with quite generous fairways but the wind, of course, can blow with a vengeance. Bigbury on Sea is also a challenging yet forgiving coastal golf course, with stunning views in all directions. And then there are all the wonderful odd and interesting villages, such as Salcombe, Noss Mayo, Modbury and Dartmouth where you can while away the hours (and pound coins!) watching the boats or children crabbing or purchasing a variety of local crafts.
