Dog Friendly! Brand new beautiful metal roofing! Very remote. 2+ hrs from DC. Cardinals Nest is in George Washington National Forest, & my personal retreat... We welcome respectful, diverse folks. You'll see some very old properties upon approach to my cabin, but Not once on my land. This leave is a leave no trace/treat it like a hike in hike out place to come a few days and rest.....This fully furnished cabin has beds/kitchen cooking items/ sofa, etc. ***DUE TO/DURING COVID— Please bring and use your own linens such as sheets, pillowcases, towels, blankets, wash rags, kitchen rags)*** The approx. 600 sq ft cabin has a super simple kitchen, full bath, bedroom, and huge family room with 2 open sleeping lofts. *** Brand new metal roof as of July 2020!** Sounds very cool to be there and listen to the rain… No children please. I now have a booking limit of three adults. That’s for everyone’s safety and comfort. Please respect that. It’s a creatively built tiny cabin, yet plenty of space to spread out...) The semiprivate bedroom features a full sized bed. The lofts are accessed by pull down attic ladders and feature recessed Edison lighting. Each loft has a window, foam (approx 2” thick) padding. Great place to watch the stars or read a book... The wood finishing details in this room are gorgeous. There's also brand new a/c unit, and leather loveseat and chair. The huge 10x30 covered front porch has a large teak table and chairs. The porch is where I find we spend a lot of our time when there... (There's also 2 smaller 4x8 covered porches...) You will have the place to yourselves. This area is very remote/rural. You may/will see wildlife both large and tiny, and your dogs may smell something great and run off... Please be very mindful and keep them under your control out here. I'm based in VA, and will NOT be onsite, however I'll only be a phone call away. There is a hard line phone in the cabin, as cell service is a no go in the forest, unless your phone can successfully WiFi connect. My cell number is on the phone in the kitchen if you need to call me. If you use the phone for anything else, I ask you please keep it short, and leave a bit of cash if used. Local and Long distance calls are both charged for out there. Approx .30$/minute... Quaint hand built cabin in a low holler of George Washinton National Forest. Elevation is 2000 ft. Wildlife/Hunting is abundant out here -- bear, turkey, deer, and squirrel. Sitting on the huge covered porch, with morning coffee, listening to the echoes of birds waking up, is amazing... And the rooster, whose clock is all messed up. You may not hear him at crack of dawn, but you will mid morning! He lives a bit down the road... There is no cell service (unless you have Wi-Fi connect) , no microwave, iron/ironing board, etc - On Purpose! Come here to relax, slow down, and do things the old school way. Enjoy the simplicity and peace. Respect this is also my personal homebase. Many things to do: hiking, pretty drives, professional porch sitting, look for antiques, explore area vineyards, very affordable horseback riding in Lost River State Park (Hidden Trails Stables), Trout Pond Park is five minute drive (swimming, fishing, etc), the Guest House at Lost River is a mile away, and is an amazing place for drinks or dinner on the weekends-- reservations highly recommended. The Lost River Yoga Barn is right down the road. A fantastic crew runs it, and it's a great morning practice... Moorefield, Wardensville, and Petersburg (great kayaking, tubing, etc) are also good places for exploring/day trips. If you a very experienced biker (motorcycle), this a great destination. Beautiful drive. And if you're a mountain cyclist, this is a great starting point. Please note that approx last tenth mile of the drive will be on an unpaved, gravel road. Please note: You may hear dogs, Especially prior to and during hunting seasons. This is an absolutely prime area/location where people bring their hunting dogs to train and work... You will need a car. And in winter, 4 wheel drive. Big House Rule -- **Leave no trace.** Bag up all kitchen and bathroom trash and take it with you upon your departure... There is no trash service out here. If that's not your style, you may want to book elsewhere. I sincerely thank you for understanding. Cannot emphasize this one enough. I'm super easy going, but this is the "main" rule. Bring your own linens, towels, washcloths, sheets, pillowcases, dish rags, blankets and pillows,. This is in effect only during Covid. This is not a normal/usual rule, but things need to be different right now. Thank you for understanding. ****Please be VERY mindful of water conservation when using sinks and the shower. The ONLY water source here comes from rainfall collected into a small cistern. Taps off. Short showers. Conserve. Bring your own food and drinks, including drinking water. I Do have some fresh spring water stored in the kitchen. It comes from a spring on rte 55 (it's tested annually for purity). I love it. Ive been using it for 12 years... It's totally up to you if you want to try it. (But seriously, don't drink the tap water. It’s unfiltered.) Bring all the food you’ll need. Stores are not close by. Think of everything you’ll need for the meals and drinks— including condiments. I have emptied out the fridge and will not have shared items as long as COVID is going on. I feel it safer for all of us. - Please, help yourself to the books and games while you are here. - A note about the phone. Once you pick up the receiver, it’ll take a few seconds before you get/hear the dial tone.
