Offida is a lively and atmospheric medieval town in southern Marche, famous for its prize winning wines (Pecorino, Passerina and Rosso Piceno) and for its tradition of beautiful bobbin lace, and for its fine examples of medieval architecture in the Centro Storico. In February the Offidani celebrate with their famous Carnival, "Bove Finto" and "Vlurd" - both amazing spectacles. There is an excellent choice of restaurants, cafe/bars, and gelaterias. In the summer months, Offida is popular with tourists from all over the world - the local Council organise many interesting and entertaining events, as well as guided tours of the important buildings. Good access (15 minutes by car) to the Adriatic coast, with excellent beach facilities at Grottammare, San Benedetto del Tronto and Cupra Marittimma. The provincial city of Ascoli Piceno is 20 minutes by car, continuing inland to the National Parks of the Sibillini mountains and Abruzzo. Offida has 4 supermarkets, bakeries, butchers and fishmongers, a children's playground, a weekly market for local produce and good parking facilites. There are daily bus services to Ascoli Piceno and the coast. However, it is more convenient to have one's own transport, particularly for exploring the local countryside and neighbouring hillside towns. From the apartment, you can walk into the Centro Storico in 15 minutes (by car 3 minutes - with a choice of 4 public parking facilities and supermarket parking places. For cyclists, there are off road tracks and quiet roads to explore in all directions.
