We can also safety store your bicycles or place your motorbike in our enclosed back garden. Front sitting-room with a number of books, quiet space to relax, read, catch up with your emails. The back garden has chairs and on sunny days our guests often love to have breakfast outside. We enjoy meeting with our guests and we will be around if you need us for advice or suggestions. Ours is just an ordinary residential area. However, it is very quiet, close to the town centre and close to Churchtown village. There are two parks close by, The Botanic Gardens and Hesketh Park. PUBS AND RESTAURANTS AT WALKING DISTANCE There is a good restaurant nearby, THE GRAPEVINE, very popular and you will need to pre-book. The HESKETH ARMS PUB, THE BOLD PUB also offers pub food & a variety of beers and has a lively atmosphere. There are many good restaurants in the town centre that we can recommend. WHY COME TO SOUTHPORT? Southport is a well maintained Victorian seaside resort alongside a Promenade by a lakeside. This classic resort has beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture around the town. Well worth a visit is Lord Street, a tree-lined boulevard with many shops and with the newly redesigned Atkinson Arts Centre, the Wayfarer's Arcade. There are plenty of opportunities to sit outside enjoying the many pavement cafes, traditional tea rooms and restaurants. The town also has a very good SWIMMING POOL, A FANTASTIC SPLASH POOL, CINEMA COMPLEX, THEATRES, BOWLING, FUN FAIR, MODEL RAILWAY. As in most towns around the country, Southport has suffered with the recession and many shops are now closed for business but hopefully this situation will change in the near future. BEACH A lovely place to walk, cycle or birdwatch but NOT to swim as the tide leaves behind vast expanses of sand and marshes. Stretching from Crosby in the south to Southport in the north, the natural coast is a beautiful expanse of beaches, pinewoods and sand dunes. Southport beach is a short walk from the town centre. BIRDWATCHING The large marshes around Southport attract huge amounts of seasonal birds and we are very well provided for with many hides and areas for bird watching in Marshside, MARTIN MERE and MERE SANDS NATURE RESERVE. The tranquil and picturesque forest and lakes of Mere Sands are very interesting and make an ideal place to walk, even if you are not a committed bird watcher. GOLF Southport is known as England's Golfing Capital, hosting the 2017 OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. There are 15 top courses which are no more than an hour's drive away and six of them are actually on Southport's doorstep. CHURCHTOWN VILLAGE is a 10 minute walk away having the lively Hesketh Pub, restaurants, quaint shops and antiques. Spend an afternoon at the Botanic Gardens, listening to the Summer Band Concerts. TRANS PENNINE TRAIL CYCLE ROUTE The beginning of the trail starts at the sea mark sculpture in Southport. The trail then forms a 215 mile national route and runs from coast to coast. There are also other local trails for walking and cycling with clear leaflet guides to help you. There are BIKES FOR HIRE in the town centre.
