One of just 5 self-catering cottages on our beautiful historic country estate, close to Templar city of Tomar. Living-room, well-equipped kitchenette, 1 bedroom, 1 bath, private terrace with BarBQ, 2 swimming pools, games room, gorgeous gardens, beautiful walks throughout estate. The entire estate is open to our guests. A baker comes every morning (but Sunday) at 8am with his van to deliver bread and pastries. Our excellent cook Margarida can deliver delicious light meals and snacks to your cottage. Hike to old irrigation tanks, to ancient worship sites, to the valley and to a village within the quinta. A booklet in the chalet provides directions and phone numbers to nearby points of interest and attractions. Very close to the farm you can: - Spend time in beautiful Tomar, with so many points of interest and good restaurants; - Bathe and do water sports, on the nearby Castelo do Bode reservoir (15 min); - Hike and bike on the beautiful trails around the Castelo do Bode; - Visit the Templar tower at Dornes (50 min); - Descend by Kayak from the pretty village of Constânçia (20 min) to the Templar Castle of Almourol, on an island in the middle of the Tagus; - Observe the stars with the largest telescope in Portugal open to the public (20min); - Visit the tropical butterfly park in Constância (20 min); - Visit extensive cave networks in Serra d'Aire (45 min) - Participate in the festival of mares (May) and the Lusitano Horse (November) in Golegã (20 min); - Pray in Fatima (25min); - Visit the cathedral of Batalha and the Cistercian convent of Alcobaça (45 and 55 min); - Visit the medieval battle center of Aljubarrota (35 min) - Spend the day in the famous and ancient university town of Coimbra (50 min); - Visit the medieval walled town of Obidos (less than an hour); - Maritime beaches and long wave surfing in Nazaré (winter - 50 min) Guests from all over have written: "The location was perfect for us. "There is a ton to see in the area, we made trips to Tomar, Coimbra, Constancia, and Almourol Castle, then came back to spend afternoons by the pool. This is a working farm so a car is essential. Despite secluded location, easy access by motorways. - Tomar - 10 min (8 Km) away. - From Lisbon airpor (Website hidden by Airbnb) From Oporto - 2 1/2 h - Nearby, and easily reached by motorways, usually 30 min and never more than 1 hour away, are Constância, Coimbra, Fátima, Batalha, Alcobaça, Golegã, Obidos, Nazaré. - Excellent rapid trains to Lisbon (1 hr) Aveiro (1 1/2 hr) and Porto (2 hrs). - Basic supermarket in local village (5 min.), large hypermarkets 10-15 min. away - Good restaurants nearby, villages with summer/autumn festivals - Great opportunities to hike inside and off-property - July and August - Knights Templar festivals in Tomar - September and October - best months of the year! - September to November - village festivals - November Lusitano Horse Festival at Golegã - November to April - Big Wave surfing at Nazaré
