Our beautiful Yurts are situated in the Vale of Avalon. This is a great alternative to B&B with only a short drive to Glastonbury it's a perfect peaceful rural hideaway. Surrounded by young fruit trees, wild flowers and an array of wildlife visit there. Our home Greenhill is at The Dove, a long established arts & pottery hub. The yurts and their facilities are luxuriously equipped, with stylish, natural and modern decor, wood burning stoves, situated in an idyllic rural, ever growing setting. The field and its facilities are growing, for those who have been before things are changing. Having two yurts now, the format has had to be re-thought. The bonus is we can now take families or groups of four friends. Couples wanting to come alone and have the field to themselves can also too and for our original returning guests we can offer a discount. We offer modcons in the yurts, kitchen & shower. Every area is set up for the cooler months. Don’t be fooled, the best months are sometimes the coolest so you can enjoy the log burner. Both yurts have electricity, modern LED dimmable lighting and USB points. There is a television to watch DVDs only in the master yurt and a kettle. They have very comfy king size beds, with Egyptian cotton bed linen. Yurts can get hot in the summer months but I designed my own system of removing the star to cool the space and can easily be replaced. No other yurt has this. They also can be blacked out with a simple innovation of mine. Green yurts are also better yurts for blacking out, unlike white ones which are bright and wake you with the morning light. The wooden spacious outdoor shower room is an amazing experience, the shower is like a waterfall and highly complimented on by all our guests. The tree bog toilet/compost toilet is also an equally as pleasant an experience, believe it or not ! The kitchen is very well set up for self catering, as we are foodies ourselves this is very important to provide. There's a huge fridge, gas cooker, toaster, kettle, blender etc There is hot water but the tank is quite small but reheats quickly. .... and then, just the environment your in, in the midst of nature, you can enjoy the tranquility of rural life, the wild flowers and orchids. Take a look at my vegetable patch, which you'll often see me in. Staying in a yurt really is a unique & exceptional experience. It was our bedroom for 4 years. I miss it so much & when you stay here you'll see why ! We have an amazing large wooden outdoor shower room with a gas heater, which is for use only. The hot water is heated by our house's solar system. The toilet maybe used by myself if I'm gardening in the field but very infrequently as I like to leave it for guest use only. The yurt kitchen is for your use only. In summer it’s open but roofed, as seen in the photos and in spring/autumn canvas sides create an enclosed room. Also with a lovely real flame gas stove making it lovely and warm ... Our own home is only a minute walk away. I'm in and out all day and am available throughout the day. I spend an ample amount of time tending to my organic veggie patch close to the yurt and my gardens, so you will see me about if you need anything. Depending how booked I am and how close the booking are, I may at times have to mow the pathways or water young fruit trees if we have a dry spell. I will be somewhat available for assistance but I lead a very busy life, looking after two small children and a teenager, plus any field/veggie patch maintenance. Having said that if there's something of importance or you need advice or pointers I am always happy to help. It helps me considerably if you strip the bed before you leave. The Airbnb protocol is that you clean up and leave everything as you found it before you depart. The cleaning fee is for the laundering of the towels & bedding & a deep clean. A basket of logs is included, during the summer you probably won't want a fire inside the yurt, but you may want to use the fire pits. You can purchase more logs from me or buy them easily locally. A short walk from us is a Somerset Wildlife Trust field which has been re-wilded back to wild flowers and about 6 different types of wild and some rare orchids grow there. People come from far and wide to see them ... There are 2 country pubs serving food nearby and many in & around the local towns of Street & Glastonbury. Both their High Streets have cafes & restaurants and we have a tearoom in Butleigh which you can walk to. There's are good music venues including The Boca Bar in The Red Brick Building in between Glastonbury and Street. They have a great cafe / restaurant serving very delicious breakfasts, lunch and evening meals. Their weekend music line ups are brilliant too. You can search engine them easily to see .... Then there's the King Arthur pub in Glastonbury, which has varied and fantastic nightly music events . There really is so much going on around the Glastonbury area, too much to list ! There is the Glastonbury website and one called the Oracle to research yourselves ... Buses are few and far between and their destinations are not varied. So it is important that you have a car and if not understand the implications of your decision. If you're visiting Glastonbury there's plenty of public car parks. I would not advise the Abbey car park as it is the most expensive but after living in London I do think all of them are cheap in comparison !! The best car parks are at the bottom of Silver Street or the largest one St Johns which is behind the High Street where there are also free public toilets. You WILL need a car to stay here, whether a hire car or your own. Taxis & walking & cycling are options but need to be carefully considered & discussed. There is parking in front of the stables at the bottom of the yurt field. Guests must only walk on the mowed areas & pathways. We have a car park by our house which is just a short walk from the yurt. The 'unlimited' home broadband in this very rural area is abysmal. Less than 2mbps. So we have paid for a system that connects to the local EE 4G cell using a data sim in a special router. This is still slowish i.e. 6-10mbps and capped at 64gb pcm and costs us a wapping £60pcm. We can offer free Wi-fi but must stress it cannot be used for streaming media i.e. no movies no music, no YouTube etc as a month's allowance can be used up in a matter of days. But it's more than adequate for browsing, email, and video internet calling. If you really want to stream movies or media in general you can buy 10GB of extra data for £15. That is EE's charge to us. This will allow you to stream the equivalent of a few movies. We have an app that monitors the usage so we can advise you when you have used up the 10gb.
