Overlooking a breathtaking view from atop a mountainside, as if floating, imagine a retreat vacation home where turning back time is easy. This little getaway sits on the Eastern Continental Divide. Drinks on the porch? *DECEMBER: Due to high elevation/winter weather, we can't guarantee bookings until forecasts are accurate. Sleet or snow would make our driveway impassable, so we will assess bookings only 1-2 weeks prior. Currently snow/below below freezing temps are predicted some Dec. dates. Built in 1939, the all-wood interiors speak to the beautiful hand-built days of home building. It includes a porcelain kitchen sink, metal kitchen cabinets, pull-chains usually operate lights and ceiling fans and several door pulls made from branches. There are 2 bedrooms, so a maximum of 4 guests, with 1 1/2 baths, works well. Along the side yard is a beautiful patio which also looks onto the view. All rooms are available. It is not conducive to children up to 12 because it is a historic house that doesn't have the safeguards on porches/railings, etc. Only the owners' pantry is kept locked. Our hammock is kept in the sun room and is available for you to hang outside if it is brought in before you leave. We will give more details about self-check-in just after booking is complete. We are always available and happy to answer any questions during your stay and can be reached by phone. A Renter's Guide in the entry hall is a complete handbook for the house and surrounding areas, practical needs and activities. Take the 20-minute, leisurely walk to town through the neighborhood. You will walk along the Continental Divide, a ridge with houses, some sided with bark. Below our backyard is the Blue Ridge Parkway and its picturesque tunnel and the other side drops off to the town road and the vast Pisgah National Forest, a breath-taking, permanent view of mountain ranges. The Inn has a great bar and wonderful seating area outside and one of 3 very nice restaurants in the immediate vicinity. We are 52 minutes from Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak of the Appalachian mountains, and just over an hour SW for a fun-filled day in Asheville, one of the most fascinating cities in the eastern US. We're close to Linville and Crabtree Falls for great hikes. Please scroll towards the end of our photos to see those and some of the other activities in the area! There is no public transportation. The closest airport is Asheville. Our house built with wood, all individual boards on floors, walls and ceilings. Our house is in an area central to excellent craft-making. There are 2 waterfalls nearby, a gem mine, a grocery 10 minutes away and from our house, it's easy to walk to town along breath-taking views! These and the beauty of our views, made us spellbound. It's a 20-minute drive to the Penland School of Craft, which has an international reputation, classes in every discipline, including glass-blowing, and a gallery that we always can't wait to go when there! We are near the Parkway, though we can't see it, so there is occasional motorcycle activity that is within hearing range.
