Art House in the Tarn
Stay in the stylish surroundings of this unique ‘hotel particulier’ in the charming bastide town of Realmont at the heart of the Tarn. House sleeps six in grand 'shabby-chic' style in early nineteenth century rooms of airy dimensions and rich Louis Quinze detail including a remarkable and unique chinoiserie in the main salon. Fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, shop among the region’s best food markets and partake of the region’s Gaillac wines. The house is huge and breezy with rooms enfilade. If we are doing the pop up restaurant while they are staying we need invade the kitchen and set up the dinning rooms on Wednesday morning. On market day in the high summer we do a pop up restaurant in our chinoiserie where our friends and locals join in. We cook produce bought that morning from the market. Realmont, 15 minutes from the Unesco world heritage site of the city of Albi, and is surrounded by lovely villages like Lautrec and Cordes sur Ciel. Visit the greatest brick built cathedral in Albi and learn about the Cathars. Museum of Toulouse Lautrec in the bishop’s palace. Less than one hour to Rodez to visit the superb Soulages Museum, a modernist masterpiece in steel. Less than an hour to the magical citadel of Carcassonne. An hour to the rose city of Toulouse for fine dining, antiques, museums and shopping. Daily flights and connections to the UK and all around Europe make this an easy transport hub. Realmont is a short drive to Narbonne and the Mediterranean and a couple of hours away from the Pyrennes; next stop, Barcelona! The house at 15 Rue Badou is a great stopping point for those en route to the south or for those who want to explore this great region of the Tarn. Realmont is only 12 minutes drive from Albi. There is a regular bus service by Tarn Bus. There is a regular train service from Albi to Toulouse. Our swimming pool is a beautiful lake (lac de bancalie) only 5 minutes drive away from the house. We often go swimming there or take a picnic. The water is clear and soft and there are lawns that lead down to the water's edge.
