Covid-19. We are now accepting bookings for stays in 2021 and 2022. Obviously, these bookings will be subject to whatever restrictions are in place at the time, both regarding your travel and any restrictions on opening of accommodation. We will not compromise with the safety of our guests, our neighbours and not least ourselves. This cosy, stone-built cottage is set below the gritstone outcrops of The Roaches, high on the Staffordshire Moorlands in the Peak District National Park Roachside Cottage is situated just yards from the gateway into the beautiful Roaches Estate, a former private estate and grouse moor, now owned by the Peak Park and cared for by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. Guests have the entire cottage - 2 bedrooms: 1 x double & 1 with 2 singles + a double sofabed in the lounge. There is also a secure store for bicycles. I like to meet all guests on arrival This cottage is spectacularly located with views extending 50 miles and more on clear days. Perfect for walking on The Roaches - Roaches Gate is 150 metres away. Leek town centre is about 10 minutes & Buxton less than 20. There is currently no bus service serving The Roaches. The Leek - Buxton bus service follows the A53. Leave the bus at Upper Hulme. Roachside is about a mile and a half walk. Remember, Roachside is 1100 feet above sea level and getting here in the winter is occasionally a challenge! This cottage is 1100 feet above sea level, on the edge of a former grouse moor - it can be windy and misty up here! Because of that, we have underfloor heating and a log fire. Bring your walking boots, wellies & warm outdoor clothing - it’s the Peak District! Parents of young children should be aware that the cottage has steep stairs, exposed stonework and hard floors, all of which are unforgiving to small heads! We are also quite close to the road, which carries almost no general traffic, but which on sunny days has lots of cars crawling back & forth looking for parking spaces (and hence sometimes not looking where they are going!). Otherwise, this is a paradise for adventurous children and responsible parents.
