A charming small two bedroom chalet situated on the South West Coastal Path on the Rame Peninsula, The Nooke sits in unarguably Portwrinkle’s finest location – a private cliff top garden directly overlooking the beach with views across the ocean from Rame Head to the East and Looe Island and beyond to the West. The spot has been in the owners family since the 1920s. Recently undergoing a full makeover we as a family are very proud to share it with you. Originally (going back many years!) an army hut from nearby Whitsand Bay, The Nooke boasts unrivalled stunning sea views from the double aspect reception room as well as both bedrooms. Compact in size and layout it has recently undergone a full makeover and can now boast comfortable beds, electric shower and radiators, wifi - even a dishwasher (a far cry from the days when water had to be collected from the communal Portwrinkle village tap!) The tiny South East Cornwall village of Portwrinkle captures the essence of Cornish life in a bygone age – by day a busy harbour landing rich catches of pilchards (the 17th century walls of the old pilchard cellars can still be seen at the top of the slipway) and by night the haunt of smugglers who used the rocky cliffs and coves for their trade. Portwrinkle is unspoilt with good, sandy beaches sheltered by cliffs including Finnygook Beach and Hoodny Cove, with lots of rockpools to explore to explore at low tides and swimming from the inner and medieval outer harbour at high tide. To the east of Portwrinkle towards Rame Head is the stunning Whitsand Bay – credited as one of the best beaches in Cornwall and consisting of a stretch of sand approaching 4 miles in length towards low tide where several smaller coves join up. And in the other direction towards Downderry are several hidden beaches accessible at low tide towards the Long Stone. The Nooke provides the perfect place to get away from the stresses and pace of everyday life. Immediately below the Nooke at low tide the beach is full of fantastic rock pools full of all kinds of sea life and at high tide a perfect spot for swimming off the inner and outer harbours. It's an ideal beach for paddle boarding and kayaking. To the left of Portwrinkle is the stunning Whitsand Bay - at low tide a two mile stretch of golden sands and clear waters. To the right of Portwrinkle beach are secluded coves accessible at low tide. And in Portwrinkle itself is Whitsand Bay Golf Club - a fabulous 18 hole cliff top golf course. A short drive away are the charming twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand and in the opposite direction the traditional bustling resort of Looe with it's cafes, restaurants, shops and fishing trips. Plymouth, with its historic Barbican, town centre and amazing aquarium is just a ferry ride across the River Tamar from Torpoint or can also be reached via a trip on the local foot ferry from either Kingsand or Mount Edgcumbe. With it's historic port and town centre, there will always be something to do! Portwrinkle in it's SE Cornwall location is the perfect base for exploring both Cornwall and Devon.
