Blacksmith House, Ghent, NY
Built in 1790 as a blacksmith shop named “The Town Ax," Blacksmith House was rebuilt in the early 1990's and renovated by the present owners in 2017. The roughhewn beams of the original structure are exposed in every room. Approached by a grand stone staircase, set in a lilac-lined hamlet with plantings, surrounded by wildflowers, furnished with antiques and primitive Americana, Blacksmith House radiates tranquility and graciousness with its full-width front porch and classic proportions. There are skylight windows in the master bedroom and third-floor loft. There is a private deck off of the master bedroom. The kitchen has updated appliances, and each bathroom has a clawfoot tub. There are window air conditioners for each bedroom and the downstairs living room, and ceiling fans in the central hallway and master bedroom. There is a woodburning stove in the living room fireplace, and laundry facilities on the second floor. The entire house is available for guests. Across the street, part of the property, is a broad lawn bordered by tall trees, perfect for playing frisbee, sunbathing or star gazing. We are available via phone, text, and email. Just down the road from the Omi International Arts Center and The Fields Sculpture Park. Ten miles from Chatham, Kinderhook, and Hudson shops, restaurants and Amtrak. Sixteen miles off exit B3 of the Mass Pike. Twenty-five miles from Bard College. Thirty miles from Tanglewood. Amidst rolling hills and pastures, Blacksmith House exists in a space all its own, surrounded by blooming nature by day and stars and fireflies at night. It is best if you have a car. There is parking for two or three cars in the driveway. We have used our experience as AirBnB guests to make Blacksmith House as comfy and convenient as possible. There are lots of surfaces in each bathroom to put your stuff. The mattresses, towels and pillows are premium quality. There are no screens in the house - no TV - you can bring your own screens if you want; there is strong WiFi. There are fantastic restaurants in Chatham, Kinderhook and Hudson, and a biodynamic natural food farm and store on the other side of Ghent. And the countryside is drop-dead gorgeous in every season of the year.
