New for September 2021, Vine Cottage is a gorgeous three bedroom cottage nestled under the historic 13th Century town walls of Langport, Somerset. Relax in your own private hot tub or find out who is the table football champion in your own games room. Why not stroll through the historic Hanging Chapel, right outside your front door, and head down to the river to grab a freshly baked pastry, or explore the waterways. The perfect place for couples retreats & family getaways. Stay in a beautiful stone cottage, perfect for a family break or a couples retreat. Vine Cottage is very private with its own entrance and screening. It perfectly blends rural life with the benefits of being in a small market town, allowing you to go for either long country walks and see farm animals from your doorstep, or to browse the local shops & market. From the church yard opposite the house, you get one of the best views of the Somerset levels imaginable, stretching for miles and miles. Inside the house has been styled in a light, bright manner with the focus on creating a relaxing space with natural colours and textures. The lounge has a wood burner and smart TV, with an audio system too for your music. Just off the lounge is another living space, for the kids to play or just for your family to spread out. Up to 5 can dine together in the kitchen/diner, which backs straight onto the garden and has a pyramid rooflight to bring in the morning & evening sun. The kitchen is fully equipped for any with a gas hob, dishwasher, oven and microwave. The flow of the kitchen to dining room and garden make cooking a social delight. The garden boasts an outside area for drinks & food, with the garden path winding down the length, ending at your private hot tub and private games room. Equipped with table tennis and table football, this room is sure to be a hit with the whole family. If relaxing is more your thing, then you'll fall in love with the private hot tub. There are three good sized bedrooms in the cottage, one a double, one a single (or space for cot), and the third either being able to be a king or twin singles. This gives you the flexibility to configure the house perfectly for your family. Each bedroom boasts high quality mattresses and Egyptian cotton linen, ensuring a great nights sleep. The bathroom is on the ground floor, with a showerbath suitable for use by all. It is spacious and with neutral and blue colours for a relaxing morning experience. N.B. This is an old cottage, and as such has a fairly steep staircase. Please bear this in mind when booking and if you're not sure, send us a message. There is on-street parking (although it is a quiet street) just the other side of the hanging chapel from Vine Cottage, which makes for a beautiful 25m walk between the house and your car. The centre of Langport is a 5 minute downhill walk away, with access to cafes, bakeries and riverside restaurants. The River Parrett runs through the centre of Langport and on warmer days you will find children and adults alike jumping in for a swim from the banks. Even on cooler days, you will often see groups using paddleboards to travel along the scenic river. If bikes are your thing, there is a bike rental shop in the town with all types of bikes for rent by the hour, day or week. Langport is a thriving market town with market stalls, multiple bakeries, grocery stores, butchers, cafes, restaurants and more. The centre of the town is just a 5 minute walk down The Hill. Here you'll also find a bike rental shop, the river which can be used for swimming in and plenty of walks across the levels. The town is extremely picturesque with all the benefits of a small town, whilst being rural with walks and more from the doorstep. Slightly further afield you can find almost any activity from mountain biking, kayaking, archery, ax throwing, nature reserves etc. Vine Cottage itself is located on 'The Hill', the oldest part of Langport. It provides unrivalled views of the surrounding countryside, as well as an eclectic mix of fine old buildings. Immediately next to Vine Cottage is the Grade 1 listed Hanging Chapel. This building is the jewel in Langport’s crown. It is a 15th century structure with 12th century origins. Its name comes from its construction over the road, not because anyone was hanged there! Over time it has been the town hall, a Sunday School, an armoury, museum, grammar school and, since 1891, a masonic lodge. Just across the road, All Saints’ Church has dominated the skyline since the 15th century. The Tower’s portcullis emblems pay tribute to Lady Margaret Beaufort (mother of King Henry VII), who, as Lady of the Manor, paid for much of its construction. The famous crowned portcullis used by the Houses of Parliament came from this Beaufort coat of arms. The east window has a fine collection of medieval stained glass. There are incredible views from the church yard across the levels. There is free parking by the river in the centre (car park) and free on road parking by the house. Walking / cycling are the best modes of transport around the local area and you can easily hire bikes for your stay.
