Nearest rail station is Diss, 8 miles away. Taxi service at Diss station. Most practical way of arriving is by car, and best way to get around the area is walking, bike riding or car driving along quiet country lanes - as this is a farming area, expect to encounter the occasional tractor and other farm machinery moving between fields. Most lanes are single track, and very low volume of traffic. Parking in the market town of Harleston is mostly free; parking in Diss is nearly all paid for. Both towns become busier on Market Days (Wednesday in Harleston, Friday in Diss), Parking at the supermarkets (East of England Co-Op in Harleston, Tescos & Morrisons in Diss) is free, and they are each only a short walk to the town centre. Quirky, old fashioned shops, tea rooms & pubs abound in Harleston, Diss, Bungay & Beccles, especially for bric a brac, curio and antique lovers (although you are not likely to find many authentic Ming vases !). Gazes Auction rooms are of interest (viewing Thursdays, sales Friday). Check in is by keys in combination lockbox. Depending on the time you arrive, we may be on-site at the adjacent stables. or just a couple of minutes away if you telephone. I am generally available between 8.30am to 10.00pm by telephone. I can give you information about things to do in the area if you wish, or you can browse the information pack and books provided. If you notify me of a problem, access will be needed by me or one of my trusted workmen/women to assess and rectify, and it may be necessary for us to enter the property whilst you are out to deal with a problem; we will try to notify you in advance. You can keep in touch with me by telephone or messaging me through Airnb. Very quiet rural setting, on the edge of the village. Ideal for enjoying country walks along leafy lanes and footpaths. Good for wildlife-lovers - deer (tiny muntjac, roe and the occasional red deer), Norfolk hares, pheasants, partridges, and other birds abound. Retired ponies live in the adjacent stables & roam the paddocks during the day (not available for riding). Wild flowers in season (please don't pick - they are legally protected). Good dog walking area (please keep under control & don't chase farm animals, horses or local wildlife; pick up poo). A reasonable drive to historic market towns of Harleston & Diss, with good pubs, coffee shops and plenty of small shops to browse. Norwich, Bury St Edmunds, Bungay & Beccles are under an hour's drive away. Explore the Suffolk Heritage Coast, Minsmere Nature reserve, or visit the world-famous Bressingham Gardens near Diss. This is right off the beaten track, so no public transport (nearest railway station is Diss, 8 miles away). But the country lanes are fairly traffic free and are bicycle-friendly (Suffolk is pretty flat), pleasant to walk, and market towns are a reasonable car drive away. Wingfield is a very quiet, traditional farming area. The local Church has been described as one of the most beautiful examples of a mediaeval village Church in England, and houses some interesting tombs. Elizabeth Plantaganet, sister of King Edward IV and the notorious Richard III, is buried here, under an alabaster effigy of her and her husband the Duke of Suffolk. On the right of the altar is one of the few surviving examples of a wooden tomb effigy, Michael de la Pole & his wife. Take a look at the carved lions which support the font, just inside the entrance, they have the most wonderful happy Cheshire Cat grins on their faces.
