The lounge offers a terrace with a pond an indoor fireplace for the cooler months a table with a lot of international magazines. Outside we have a so called Boma, an African touch to our stay. It is a firepit with benches where you can enjoy Portugal's summernights with a cosy atmosphere. Dominio Vale Flores is runned by Daniel and Diederieke, a South African/Dutch couple with a tourism and hospitality background. We are here to welcome you and give you ideas to go around but we fully respect your privacy. We live in the mainhouse on the property with our 3 sons and our dog Bella. Dominio Vale Flores is centrally located and close to the A1 motorway. It is an ideal location to discover a beautiful part of Portugal. We love to visit the characteristic towns of Tomar, Caldas da Rainha, Santarem and Golegao. The weekly markets are always worthwhile to visit. Fruits and veggies, chickens, rabbits, flowers, bread and fish, many products available and strolling those markets is an experience itself. Ofcourse a typical 'churros' or chicken piri piri should be tried! Within an hour you are in the centre of Lisbon. This also applies to the beautiful beaches on the Atlantic. Santarem has a trainstation with efficient railway connections to Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto and other cities. A pleasant way to travel the country as well. Our location is in the countryside so a car makes it necessary to get to our place. Upon request a transfer from and to Santarem trainstation can be organised (additional costs) On our quinta we are aware of nature and the environment. Seems logical to us. The premise 'use what you have' is an important principle for us. Although we can not operate completely ecological, we do try to take the utmost account of nature. In the bathrooms we seperate waste water (grey water) from basin and shower and is filtered naturally and used for irrigation for the garden. We grow our own veggies and herbs and many of the fruit trees are planted by us. The harvest is used for lunches and snacks in the all season lounge area 'O Dominio' (opening aprox. March 2018). Our aim is to eat and drink what the season provides. We use many resources offered by nature. Firewood of pruned olive trees, leaves and garden waste is stocked to become compost, garden flowers for the decorations and the water comes partly from our own source. It forms the base of our 'use what you have' thoughts and meanwhile we try to expand those possibilities.
