Court Farm Cottage - 'Absolute'
Absolute and Elsewhere are two adjoining cottages created from a recently restored Grade 2 listed farm building on the edge of the tiny hamlet of Lullington. There are 24 houses, a 12th century church, no street lights and footpaths through open countryside in every direction. The village adjoins the Orchardleigh Estate - a popular wedding venue, 3 miles from the market town of Frome and 12 miles from the cultural centre of Bath. Longleat is about 15 minutes away, Stonehenge about half an hour. There are two bedrooms, each with a standard double bed and two bathrooms - one en-suite shower room, the other a main bathroom. The cottage is wheelchair accessible and there are no internal steps. The cottage next door also has two bedrooms. Both can be rented together (subject to availability) for flexible accommodation for a larger group. The entire cottage is self-contained along with the fenced garden. Parking is adjacent. There is also access to a paddock and field for dog walking and many footpaths are nearby, one from the front door. Details of nearby attractions, shops and recommended places to eat are in the cottage. The farmhouse is nearby and there will always be someone around to provide help if required. Lullington is two and a half miles north of Frome set above the west bank of the river Frome. The land rises steeply from the river valley to the centre of the village and then becomes gently undulating arable farmland. The village was first recorded in the Domesday survey of 1086. Its 980 acres were farmed in the feudal system and belonged to the Norman Bishop of Coutances. The village centre has a small green and a well encircled by cottages, mostly built as pairs, with the church at the north end. Two farms are right at the heart of the village, Court Farm by the church and Gloucester Farm. The village shop, which became the Post Office closed in 1961. Today there are just 25 households with a population of approximately 63. There is no public transport in the village. A car is essential. Frome Railway Station BA11 1RE is about 12 minutes drive, 3.5 miles Taxi to Lullington about £10. Westbury Station BA13 4HP has fast direct trains to London, about 20 minutes drive. There are more trains from Bath. There is no public transport in the village - so a car is essential to get around.
