Wild North West Coast
Escape to a warm, modern, self-contained flat with stunning views, in an isolated and spectacular location on the rugged, windswept west coast of Golden Bay. We are a 30 minute drive from Collingwood. Follow a winding gravel road through native New Zealand bush, skirting around the north end of the Westhaven Inlet, to the family-run property. It is 27km West from Collingwood. Your comfortable, self-contained flat is at the far end of the house, separated from the rest of the house by a triple garage. It consists of a kitchen, a lounge, a bedroom and a bathroom. Amenities include Wifi, Freeview TV with Bluetooth Sound Bar (and Blu-ray player for your DVDs), microwave, coffee machine, full sized fridge/freezer and drawer dishwasher. The kitchen is fully equipped for normal food preparation. Please bring your own food! There is good cell phone coverage at the flat but no land-line telephone. The house overlooks a commercial sheep and beef farm. We regret to inform that farm and beach access is no longer available at this property. However, you are welcome to explore the native bush track right beside the house. Your space is a private flat at the end of the house, separated from the rest of the house by a triple garage. You can come and go as you please. If you wish to fly a drone be aware that it is private property and according to NZ laws you will need to ask permission from the land owners, who are sensitive about drones (talk to the current farmers Pax and Ellie). We look forward to providing you with a break away in our wild and scenic part of the country! Pax and Ellie now live in the main house and will most often be out working on the farm . We appreciate feedback and pointers as to how we can provide you with the best possible experience! The 500 hectare hilly sheep and beef farm is bordered on the East by the magnificent Kahurangi National Park. Nearby attractions include the popular Kaihoka Lakes (great for swimming and exploring) and the scenic, ever changing Westhaven Inlet. Internationally renowned Farewell Spit and the famous, photographic Wharariki Beach are about 40 minutes drive away through pleasant and interesting countryside. Or stay at home and enjoy the ocean view and take a quiet walk through our native bush which has lush ferns and tall rimu trees. On your way to the house there may be mud in the cattle yards but 2wd vehicles are ok! This is a great base from which to explore Western Golden Bay. However the farm is an operational area and tourist access has been denied. Therefore you won't be able to walk, bike or drive to Nguroa Beach or enter the farm yards and sheds. We have created a 5 minuted (or take as long as you like!) marked loop track beside your flat that will take you through beautiful native ferns and trees. 1. If you wish to fly a drone be aware that it is private property and according to NZ laws you will need to ask permission from the land owners, who are sensitive about drones (talk to the current farmers Pax and Ellie). 2.If the wind is howling, there may be a slight rumbling sound in the chimney of the fire place. 3. Please bring your own food and leave the flat as you found it.The best nearby grocery store is in Takaka (50 minutes away) and there are limited grocery supplies in Collingwood and Pakawau. 4.
