Bishop’s cottage has always had very high cleanliness standards and ratings so you can rest assured that the cottage is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival. In addition to the usual cleaning process, extra cleaning will be done on high touch items such as light switches, remote controls and door handles. All cleaning will be performed using PPE. We have always provided hand wash at all the sinks in the cottage and this will continue. We have key-code access (this will be cleaned along with the house keys and alarm system), so you will not come into contact with ourselves during your stay. As you have the cottage to yourselves, you can relax in your own place. We look forward to welcoming you soon. Lock box access so it doesn’t matter what time you arrive. I’ll send you the code and the house alarm codes before you arrive. We will try to allow an earlier check in and a late check out dependent on booking capacity. High chair, stair gate and travel cot are available. The travel cot is under the double bed. For health & safety purposes babies bedding isn’t provided for the travel cot. Please bring your own. The travel cot mattress is the standard one provided as part of the structure. We do not provide an additional mattress. Should you decide to alter the travel cot in anyway, we are not responsible for any consequences. All bedding, towels (1 hand & 1 bath towel per guest) & tea towels provided. Our (Hidden by Airbnb) page ‘Bishop’s Cottage Woodhouses’ has loads of up to date information about local attractions and events in the area. If you’re thinking you might need a bigger place to stay in the same area, take a look at our other cottage, “Kingfisher Cottage. A Rural Riverside Retreat.” There’s a guest cottage information file that includes the wifi code and there are lots of tourist attraction information brochures as well as maps for walking routes and cycling routes. There are lots of DVD’s to watch and there’s a cupboard full of board games, lego, adult and children’s colouring in books and pens and both children’s and adult books to read. Netflix is provided so please bring your own login details. Don’t forget to logout when you leave!!! One large or two small dogs are permitted but are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture. Please clean up after your dog in the garden. Please don’t leave your dog unattended in the property. There are several dog friendly pubs nearby and lots of great walks nearby. You can even walk your dog in the big field around the back of the cottage. If you want to bring your bike there’s a secure lockable bike store in the front garden. There are lots of cycle routes and country lanes around and about and further afield. For an excellent biking day out, visit nearby Hamsterley forest. Strictly No Smoking throughout please. If you want to smoke please go outside. There are benches to sit on in both the front garden or back patio area. Initial wood is provided for the fire. Extra supplies can be purchased from the nearby retail park. There’s a fire guard too in case you have children or bring the dog! The central heating is set to a timer. If it's not quite right then please contact us and we can alter it for you. We don’t want you to be too hot. It’s a pretty warm cottage especially with the Woodburner. The whole place gets warm quite quickly! On road car parking is available outside the cottage and is shared with the neighbouring properties. I can’t guarantee you’ll be able to park directly outside the front door but you can definitely get parked even if it’s on the other side of the road! The cottage is on a country road so the odd tractor or horse might go by. The road does get busy at peak times but during the day it’s pretty quiet. You have the whole place to yourself. For your privacy we host remotely. We are always available to help you out with any problems or queries you might have and are just a call, text or email away. We’re within an hours drive so if there’s an emergency we’ll endeavour to get to you as soon as possible. Our contact information will be sent to you prior to booking. We look forward to welcoming you to Bishop’s Cottage! Bishop’s Cottage really has the best of both worlds. Set in a peaceful semi-rural location overlooking fields on a country lane, there are lots of walks and good cycle paths nearby. There is also a handy retail park nearby where you’ll find lots of large supermarkets, retail shops, restaurants, fast food restaurants and drive thru’s. Slightly further up the road is a lovely farm shop and restaurant, Broom Mill Farm, that sells homemade produce. Absolutely delicious food and a great Sunday lunch! Highly recommend. The Sun Inn at Wackerfield is another highly recommended pub with great food and huge portions. The closest pub that serves food is the Saxon Inn at Escomb. Again, delicious food and a dog friendly pub. This is only a couple of minutes by car or you could walk it but it’s down a country lane with no path. Maps in the cottage will be able to help you decide where to go. During the summer months Kynren is a night time outdoor show about the history of England and the local area. It's absolutely amazing and well worth a visit. Access is simple and is about a 10 minute drive away. If you are bringing children with you then there are lots of things to do to keep them occupied! In the cottage itself you’ll find books, colouring books, games, Lego, various toys & DVD’s. The back yard is fully enclosed with no traffic nearby. As well as being in the perfect location for visiting Durham University, there are loads of attractions to visit all within a half hour drive. Take a look at our guidebooks for ideas. Easy access via the A1 motorway from the North or South. Newcastle and Teeside Airports are not too far away. Bishop Auckland (5 minutes away by car) has a train station with links to Durham, which is perfect for University visits. The local bus station has links to Barnard Castle, Durham and Newcastle. The bus to Bishop Auckland is approximately a 10 minute walk away. Park and ride into Durham is a (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) minute drive. You need to head for the Howlands park and Ride site.
