Sailing Barge Reminder, Hythe Quay
Built in 1929, Reminder offers an unusual and memorable venue for weekend stays, moored on Maldon's Hythe Quay. Ideally placed for exploring rural Essex with sea wall walks, a lovely High Street and riverside pubs. Mostly two night minimum stay, but requests for one night considered. Daytime meals can be taken in our own barge tearoom just along the quay. If you would like a private dinner party on board, ask Steph about or chef service. Plenty of space on deck to enjoy the river views. Still active as a charter sailing vessel, Reminder is available as a "cottage" for weekend stays. She has a cosy saloon with central heating and a solid fuel stove and sleeps 14 guests in 6 cabins. Enjoy quiet early mornings on deck, crab with the children, and if you are cooking on board, the open plan salon makes for sociable entertaining. The whole vessel is yours for the weekend. You will be sent the padlock code for joining and will find a welcome pack on board with lots of useful information and emergency contact numbers. We leave the vessel ready for you on The joining evening with emergency contact phone numbers. Just shut the hatch when you leave. Maldon is a beautiful and friendly town on the River, a very popular destination for a walk along the Prom or to visit one of the quayside pubs. The High Street, just round the corner from the quay, is well known for it's small individual shops, brewery tap rooms and a wide choice of restaurants. A short walk from the barge brings you out onto the salt marshes. Nearest train station is Witham (direct line from Liverpool Street Station, London). Then Bus or taxi to Maldon. 45 mins from Stansted and Southend airports. Parking in nearby public car park. Bike route no 1 goes right through town. We generally offer 2 night weekend breaks, join Friday evening and stay to 5pm on Sunday. Mid- week and longer stays are of course book able.
