‘Top O' Th Hill Farm’ is nestled at the end of the infamous 'Hill Street', home to ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ characters, Howard, Pearl and Clegg. The grade II listed farm dates back to 1750 offering a very quirky, cosy, rustic retreat, steeped in period features and set in 6 acres of woodland and meadows. The farm offers a peaceful elevated south facing location above the sleepy old village of Jackson Bridge with outstanding views across the valley and within 2 miles of Holmfirth. Guests have exclusive use of the traditional stone built rustic farm cottage, Grade II listed and offering a very cosy and quirky space with many period features including stone flagged floors, stone fireplace with Yorkshire range, oak beamed and timbered ceiling. The bathroom has a very modern feel with walk in shower, exposed stone and timbers. Instant hot water and heating system. 'The Blue Room' - double bedroom painted in Persian blue reaching to the oak beamed eves, furnished with an original burnished brass and cast iron double bed, 1960s feel with vinyl record player, writing desk and many other interesting artefacts and artworks. Outdoors- Guests are very welcome to stroll around the land or relax in wooded wilderness area, which offers a bush baths, fire pit, Cinema in the woods , hammocks and long stone table dinning for evening or cooking on the pizza oven or bush craft hot grill, all by arrangement. Entrance to the cottage is through the farm gates at the end of the lane and the cottage is just around the corner. Guests have use of the whole cottage which includes, living room / kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Guests are more than welcome to wander and explore the 5 acres of farm land with access to the woodland retreat area, the bush bath, hammocks, fire-pit, garden caravan area with tables and chairs. The family live around the corner in the adjacent weavers cottage next to the farm. They are all very sociable with excellent knowledge of the local area and happy to help, equally respect guests space. Hill Street is a very friendly street and you will be able to spot Last of the Summer Wine locations. Other residents include a herd of Texel sheep, 2 black Hebridean sheep, Moon pig, piglet and Gingy, Victoria and Misty the cats, a hive of honey bees and a chicken. Jackson Bridge (locally known as Jigby) is a very friendly traditional Yorkshire mill village with its roots dating back to the industrial revolution and Luddites. There are 4 local pubs within a short walk which offer different perspectives on local culture. Buses run to Holmfirth and surrounding towns and cites. The nearest local train station is Brocholes which is about 3 miles away with main routes from Sheffield or Huddersfield, Leeds, Manchester and Wakefield. Local taxis available at reasonable rates. We have squeaky sloppy floorboards, worn stone in a very cosy and 90s kitchen in quirky rustic space, it's not polished but honest and offering those who visit a wealth of opportunity to experience in a beautiful location and setting. We don’t change a cleaning fee as we find our guests seem to respect the space and environment and leave it clean and tidy; thank you. The small holding has a few pigs, sheep, cats and bees a tractor old cars dotted around; on sunny summer days it's perfect location chilling in the hammocks, on wet autumnal days, cosy inside or wellies on in the muddy puddles. Pets (dogs) are more than welcome as it’s a very dog friendly space and environment. Please read house rules on pets. It's an interesting, bohemian and arty environment with plenty to explore both inside and outside, locally and future afield.
