The Lodge, Baconsthorpe

The Lodge is a luxurious and spacious holiday cottage, ideal for a couple, situated in glorious open countryside close to Baconsthorpe, and only 4 miles from the Georgian market town of Holt. Newly converted from an outbuilding in the grounds of the owners' property, the Lodge is completely self-contained and offers a peaceful retreat. It is finished to a very high standard, with underfloor heating from an air source heat pump and power from solar panels with TESLA Powerwall battery storage. All on a single level : Very large triple aspect open plan living / dining room with kitchen area, featuring a vaulted beamed ceiling and woodburner, with French doors leading to the terrace Large bedroom with king size bed, also available as 6'6" long twin beds, and large hanging cupboard En suite bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, washbasin in a vanity unit and w.c. Fully equipped kitchen Fridge freezer, gas cooker with double oven, dishwasher, microwave. Washing and drying can be done for you by the owners by arrangement. Guests have full / sole use of the building. There is a parking area, a large private south facing terrace with table and chairs, and a garden area. Gas barbecue provided. The owners keep no pets or domestic animals and thus the property's four acres are a haven for hares, deer, hedgehogs, owls and other wildlife which can be observed from the Lodge's terrace. The owners live close by and are available for help or advice if required. The Lodge is personally maintained by the owners. Baconsthorpe is 4 miles from Holt and the location of Baconsthorpe Castle, a ruined fortified manor house dating from the 15th Century, and an English Heritage site. The Lodge is situated on a public footpath and there is an extensive network of local walks to enjoy on your doorstep. The Georgian market town of Holt offers numerous shops selling antiques, art, luxury goods and food, together with an excellent range of cafes and restaurants. The outstanding north Norfolk coast is within easy reach, with spectacular beaches, bird watching on the marshes, beautiful seaside towns and villages - and, of course - wonderful seafood such as Cromer crab ! Weybourne (6 miles), Blakeney & Cromer (9 miles). Two of the finest National Trust houses are both 8 miles away, Blickling Hall with its spectacular Jacobean house, gardens and estate and the superb 17th century Felbrigg Hall. The Norfolk Broads and the historic city of Norwich are also easily accessible to add even more variety to your holiday. To fully enjoy your stay here, you are advised to travel by car. Alternatively, you can travel by train, the nearest station is Sheringham, about 5 miles away, and you would need to use local taxis for all other local travel. The nearest shops are in Holt, 4 miles away. Sorry, no pets allowed. Smoking is not allowed. No cot is provided. Full week holidays - Saturday to Saturday - available from April through October.  The Lodge is accessed by an unmade country track about 650 metres long, it has recently been fully resurfaced in early 2019, since our first review, and is suitable for all vehicles.
