With love and respect to the nature and the character of our island we made our rooms, "Zacharoula" or "Sugary rooms". Magganitis our village is an amazing place with breathtaking and safe beaches and nature. Every summer, from May until September, more than 100 traditional "fiestas" take place at Ikaria. Fiestas take place at openair places. Dancing folk dances, eating traditional food and drinking local wine, promise a great experience. Ikaria is named for Icarus, son of Daedalus, the legendary architect of King Minos’ Cretan labyrinth. When the two tried to escape from Minos’ prison on wings of wax, Icarus ignored his father’s warning, flew too close to the sun and crashed into the sea, creating Ikaria – a rocky reminder of the dangers of overweening ambition. Greek myth also honours Ikaria as the birthplace of Dionysos, god of wine and joy. Magganitis our village is also an amazing place with breathtaking beaches and nature. The thousands Menhirs of the area at this full green landscape with olive trees, figs, pinetrees and holm oaks, give the village its unique character. Coming from Evdilos port towards Magganitis, a tunel leads you to our village and by the time visitors see it realise it worthed to visit. Natural springs, trecking and walking paths, flowers , forests and wonderful beaches were used at the canvas of Magganitis. The crystal clear blue and green water of the beaches attract you and literally makes you forget about everything.The beaches of Magganitis,are among the safest and calmest of the island. With our Ikarian spirit can help you to explore most of the beauties of the island and be sure will do our best on it. You can depart early in the morning and return back at the afternoon. Our rooms, now, are five, individual rooms, totally harmonic at our village's spirit. Sunny and airy, with view to the sea, the mountain and the village, will make you feel like local. The studio has a double bed and closets. There is also frigde and aircondition. A very beautiful balcony where you have view towards the sea and the mountain. It has also big fully equiped kitchen. Our rooms are fully equipped with bed-linen and towels. Relaxing at the balcony or the yard you can enjoy your coffee or wine with view towards the sea,the mountain or the village. From our rooms, walking at a very beautiful path, beach of Magganitis is just 15 minutes. At our village you can find whatever you may want. Cafes and small traditional restaurants serve "mezes" and local food. Besides, Ikarian kitchen is well known international for the longevity that "offers" to the people of Ikaria. So feel free to enjoy local food and wine, fresh and delicious at the elegant places of the vilage. There is also mini market for your needs. Night time you can enjoy your drinks at the bar of the village just by the sea or at the traditional cafes. From the port or the airport there are taxis that can drive you to Magganitis. Also there are many car rentals where you can rent a car or a scooter to our place. Due to the change of the host we lost all of our reviews! All of them were more than positive, so now we attach them below and of course you can experience our hospitality and quality by your selves! Lilly We loved our stay in Ikaria. Totally quiet (apart from the loud cicadas!) and up high in the hills, our beautiful room offered calm and tranquility. Our host was super lovely and the room was presented beautifully. Clean and cool with fresh linen, air conditioning and a little outside space to sit and look at the mountain views or read. It is a perfect location if you want to stay with a warm, welcoming family and be away from the crowds that flood some other parts of the island. You can walk to the beach in town and to the port, which has a great restaurant, and it is a short drive to the beautiful Seychelles Beach (park on the road above and wear hiking shoes to get down to it). We recommend this lovely place to anyone who wants a real Ikarian experience! Το προφίλ του/της Mara Mara Μάιος 2017 This beautiful place is in magical Magganitis, a beautiful and calm ocean-side town nestled underneath the mountains. Very clean and quiet, with a great garden to look out over and wander around, and a ten minute walk to the port, a fairly unknown beach, and the town center, and another ten minute walk in the opposite direction towards great hiking trails in the mountains. Thania and the house manager, Stella, made us feel at home and were very accommodating. Highly, highly recommended, especially for those looking for some peace and quiet in a quaint Greek village. The view from the balcony (or anywhere on the property) is a stunning vista of mountains swooping down to meet the ocean. There are many amenities, like Greek coffee and briki, fruit, olive oil and spices, at your disposal. Although I didn't need it as I was traveling alone, the loft space in this room was gorgeous and would be perfect for parents traveling with children. About my on-site hosts, the husband and wife team Stella and Stefanos and their son Lefteris- I can't say enough good things! They were beyond generous and kind, and took so much care to see that I was enjoying my stay and comfortable. I feel that I have made some new, wonderful friends in Magganitis, and I will return as soon as I can. Το προφίλ του/της Ron Ron Νοέμβριος 2016 Our stay in Ikaria was one of the most memorable trips we have had. The Zacharoula guest house was as described, extremely clean, picturesque and comfortable. It is located in Maganitis, a beautiful beach-side postcard pretty village on the side a steep hill descending to the sea, at the western end of the south coastal road. There was a steep climb of 150m up the slope from the road which we enjoyed as welcome exercise. Unfortunately the hostess Thania was not on site, which we understand as we stayed in the most definitely "off " season which was exceptionally quiet, and this suited us very well. However Victoria, Francesco and Alexandra were around alot and were most helpful. We certainly recommend Thania's place Zacharoula. If like us you like extreme quiet, where the action is in one of the 2 local cafes in the evening sitting around with a few locals drinking beer or ouzo with some meze, this is the place for you. The island itself is just unbelievable, in particular due to the unbelievably friendly local population, exceptionally beautiful sky and sea views, mountain scenery and villages, and the Hot Springs at Lefkadha with boiling water bubbling out of the seabed mixing with the Aegian sea among the rocks at the shore. You can enjoy the hot water in the sea on a cold day in beautiful natural suroundings and its amazing. So to summarise: Greece, Ikaria, Maganitis and Zacharoula. Stella and Eleni (our land ladies) were amazing! So welcoming, hospitable, Stella gave us four yummy pieces of Zucchini pie and half a water melon on arrival then next day beautiful chocolate cake to have with our 'kafe' and also then some halva a couple of days later! Stella and Eleni have true Greek 'Filotimo'. They care about their guests are warm and friendly. The room is just how you see in the photos! Beautiful, clean, airy, the view spectacular. So peaceful and quiet in Magganitis a true authentic experience of being in a smaller Greek village not touristy at all. If you want peace and quiet and to relax this is the place to visit! Communication with Thania was very prompt too and clear. You will need cash as no credit cards accepted on the island really so take out money at Ag. Kirikos or at the airport. Stella also provides a beautiful breakfast for €7 a day generous servings we would come back in a heartbeat. Also everyone we spoke to on the island that asked where we were staying and they know Zacharoulas rooms at Magganitis Stella has a great reputation across the island! We arrived to hear that the room we had booked was not available and that one of us would need to sleep on the sofa at the end of the bed. We ended up splitting our group and looking for another accommodation (hard to find and definitely not as pleasant). We lost Airbnb fees, and quite an extensive amount of time to find a solution, which did not contribute to our peace of mind. Communication is not the forte of this Airbnb so we advise next travelers to ensure that their booking is good before going. We booked another one free for you and we gave you money back!Immediatelly we tried to find a solution, since you had only a night at our place and we didnt want you to "miss" even a single minute of your stay. Αύγουστος 2016 Το προφίλ του/της Martin Martin Ιούλιος 2016 Our weeks at Stella's place were magical. The room is the best on Ikaria! No kidding. The view from the balcony is out of this world. If you'd like to explore the Island, you definitely need a car or bike. But if you just want to relax and walk to the beach or go hiking, Magganitis has plenty to offer. We were here 3 weeks without a car and perfectly happy. The locals are very friendly and generous. Stella was always surprising us with little gifts of homemade marmalade and eggplant salad. She even hosted a private Paniygiri for all her guests one night complete with amazing local singer/violinist Yiannis! A stay at Stella's is truly what you make it. If you want a quiet romantic getaway, or want to make some local and international friends, this is the place. Thania was very prompt in helping us book and answering any questions. The only thing which might be an issue for some is the wifi is a bit spotty(only accessible from outside the room), but we understand that this is more a town issue than just the place. This turned out to be nice because coming to Ikaria is a step back in time(in a very good way). The kitchen is outside and shared with two other rooms. We actually loved this because we got to spend time in the beautiful Ikarian weather(so windy in July!) and got know the other guests, having shared dinners every night. Magganitis is a lovely and small village, so if you come in the high season there is a chance you could still find peace and quite. we stayed in September so it was a little windy. the house is very nice, clean and with a good touch of the host. the view is to the mountains and the sea, but you should have a vehicle to get easily to the beach near by. The owner, mrs Stella had left us cake and water melon that was a nice welcome surprise. Our room was on the upper floor and the views to the sea were spectacular. The area is very green. You will need a car to move around, the village of Magganitis is very quiete but very close to the famous Seychelles beach. Had wi fi available but only on the ground floor.
