Self contained suite, one twin + en suite shower room, one double, one single, bath/shower room, all with views over lovely garden, farmland & Glastonbury Tor. Breakfast served in large family kitchen. One friendly dog. Well-behaved dogs welcomed. Five minutes' drive from Glastonbury Festival site & Glastonbury town. Sites of interest nearby: Wells 15 mins; Bath 40 mins; Stourhead 20 mins; Cheddar Gorge 20 mins; Longleat 25 mins; Haynes Motor Museum 20 mins. All backgrounds welcome. Penwood Farm is a typical Somerset long house, built around 1540 by yeoman farmers of the local blue lyas stone, and is Grade 2 listed, with many of its original features, i.e. oak beams, huge inglenook fireplaces, bread ovens, flagstone floors. The guest suite of rooms is entirely for guests' use. Breakfast is served in the kitchen. There is a large barn converted into a games room/library with a patio outside which can be used by guests if necessary, and all of the gardens and paddocks. We always greet our guests personally and are available for help or advice when necessary. We are near two very friendly villages with pubs and medieval churches. We are also on the edge of the Somerset Levels, a similar landscape to the Fens in the east of England, flat and criss-crossed with ancient drainage ditches known here as rhynes (pronounced "reens"). The Levels are encircled by two ranges of hills, The Mendips and The Quantocks. And of course the famous Glastonbury Tor towers over all. There is virtually no public transport near us. It is necessary to have your own transport. We are in dairy farming country, so there are lovely walks but watch out for cows and other livestock during summer months. Always leave farm gates as you find them, (usually shut) and keep dogs under control or on a lead when near livestock.
