This traditional slate house is in the hamlet where Arthur Ransome, author of 'Swallows & Amazons' spent his childhood holidays. Today it still retains its sleepy charm. The house is a stone's throw from Coniston Water with fells, woodlands and waterfalls on the doorstep waiting to be explored. It's a great location for family holidays, with all the beauty of the Lake District packed into this little hidden corner. I am an Air bnb host welcoming guests to our home for part of the year, but, very occasionally, it's nice to be able to offer the whole space so that other families or friendship groups can enjoy our special location. We restrict the number of guests to 5 , in order to be sensitive to the restrictions of parking (off road space for 2 cars), facilities and especially our private rural septic tank! The house is in a great location for family or friends' holidays. A good-sized open plan kitchen, a comfortable lounge with open log fire, and 3 generous double bedrooms makes it a lovely place to unwind, whatever the weather. As it is our family home for most of the year, we would like it to be your family home for the duration of your stay, enjoyed and cared for as you would your own. The bookcases are well-stocked, there are board games (plus Duplo and Brio) , a modest TV and fast fibre broadband. Either myself or a neighbour will be on hand if you require any assistance, advice, tips and suggestions for activities/walks etc in the area. Gosh, there's so much to see and do....either right on the doorstep or a little further afield. The Lake District has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status as it is such a stunning and special area. Talk to us once you've booked then we can give you some suggestions.......... A car is really essential around here as buses are scarce! And the bus stop is a 20 minute walk away! However, bring bikes as it's great for cycling here and of course, you can walk for miles in the most glorious scenery! Please note that August bookings are usually for 5, 6 or 7 nights. There is an old Aga in the kitchen for which we suggest an additional £8 per day (payable while here....just a donation towards the cost of the oil) if you wish it to be on for the duration of your stay. It is very handy for drying wet clothes and very welcoming to return home to, though not essential, especially in the summer months. The house has central heating (included) and there is an open fire in the lounge (bucket of coal and a basket of logs included) and an electric oven and hob. Although a washing machine is not available I can do a wash for you if required. Please note that we charge a very modest cleaning fee so we do request that you leave the house in good order, especially the kitchen area.
