Welcome to Joho House! (Similar to Soho House, but less pretentious, friendlier and cheaper) Hosted by Jo-Hannah, Joho House is a 750 square foot two bedroomed 1/F apartment located in the bohemian village of Poh Wah Yuen on Lamma Island. The apartment is a short 5 minute walk from the Yung Shue Wan ferry pier. Only a 25-30 minute ferry ride from Pier 4, Central, Hong Kong. For beach lovers, Tannery beach or Nga Kau Wan 牙較灣 is a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Joho House welcomes you! SHARED SPACE Unless otherwise stated, you will sharing the communal areas with me as I also live in the apartment. Your bedroom is at the front of the apartment with unspoiled views onto the ocean. Living/Dining area The living area has a three seater sofa bed, bamboo foot rest and a papasan chair affectionately known as "the lettuce chair". There is a coffee table decorated with flowers and fancy scented candles. There is a 36" TV with HDMI cable to connect your laptop to watch movies/Netflix. The dining area has walls decorated with artworks and souvenirs from travels around Asia. Nestled on a leopard print rug, the huge dining table comfortably sits 6-8 people. At Joho House we have a healthy (not unhealthy!) obsession with leopard print which frequently pops up in the decor around the apartment. Kitchen The kitchen is a traditional Hong Kong village house style. The kitchen is clean and functional and equipped with a fridge/freezer with an ice drawer, oven/grill, electric hob, nutribullet and Nespresso machine. You will have everything you need to cook, from pots and pans, utensils, spices and wine glasses etc. Teabags and Illy coffee will be provided. Bathroom The bathroom is a traditional Hong Kong wet room with a rain shower and good water pressure. The bathroom is decorated with the landlords eclectic choice of blue floral tiles and an eye catching retro marine blue toilet seat. Bedroom The bedroom is a decent size with a comfortable queen sized bed. There is a sweeping stunning ocean view out the window overlooking the jungle garden. There is a desk providing some storage space and a bedside table with lamp. The room has it's own lock for security. Suitcases can be stored in the hallway or in the bedroom. Balcony There are two areas to sit on the balcony. One being the "cocktail hour" area with two bar stools and foot rest. Perfect for drinking a sunset cocktail and taking in the view and natural surroundings. The other area is for morning coffees and reading. This area has more comfortable lounge chairs, a foot rest and a side table. This area is also home to my barely clinging on to life herb garden, featuring mint, basil, kale, rosemary etc. you are welcome to use these for cooking. Guests can access the property via a private stair well shared with only one other neighbour. The living/dining area, kitchen, bathroom and balcony are shared spaces. Please be respectful of noise and don't break anything. Although I will be out socialising with friends or at work, I will be on hand to help you out with anything for the duration of your stay. If you need any recommendations, tips etc. please do not hesitate to ask. The Location Trade in city life for fresh air and natural surroundings. Lamma Island is a traditional fishing village which has developed into a multicultural community, favoured by expats who enjoy its laid-back vibe. No cars are allowed on Lamma Island so your legs will be your main mode of transport. The main village is five minute walk from the apartment in which you can find a range of local, western or Asian ocean view restaurants. There are bars where you will often find the local residents sipping a beer strumming a guitar. Candela, The Waterfront and Blue Goose are all firm favourites. You won’t find better local food than at Sampan Restaurant, which serves authentic Chinese food. In the village you can also pick up fresh fruit and veg and groceries. Lamma has been able to retain it's island charm and there are chain stores or restaurants on the island, preferring local family run businesses with charm. Joho House is located in Poh Wah Yuen Village is a sleepy, bohemian tree lined village around 5 minutes walk from Yung Shue Wan Ferry. There is a small sitting out park for relaxing or you can walk to the beach a short five minute walk away. There is a great sense of community spirit. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, even the local village dog Mr Yoko. The neighbors walk by waving hello and say good morning. The unofficial uniform of the village is shorts and flip flops, or no shoes at all. Ferry Piers The island has four piers, located at Yung Shue Wan, Sok Kwu Wan (Picnic Bay), Pak Kok Tsuen and Mo Tat Wan, respectively. It currently has three outbound ferry routes: Central to Lamma Island (Yung Shue Wan), Central to Sok Kwu Wan, and Aberdeen to Sok Kwu Wan, each operated by a different company. The last ferry is 11:30pm back to Central. Ferry times to Yung Shue Wan vary from 12:30am - 2:30am. Please check on the day. There are no cars, public transport or taxis on Lamma. Bad Weather Ferry services may cease during typhoons or rainstorms as ferries may not be able to dock. Please plan your journey and prepare accordingly. Neighbours The property is a large 3 storey village house in which the apartment is located on the 1/F. Please be respectful of the ground floor tenants and neighbour on the 2/F above. We are a close knit community and fairly tolerable of noise during reasonable hours. Please respect this. There will be strictly no parties on the property. Smoking is permitted on the balcony only. Cigarette butts must be disposed of in the ashtray provided. Forest fires are a hazard due to the dry nature of the surrounding jungle grass. Please be cautious of this.
