This newly renovated cottage is an ideal base from which you can explore the Vendee region of France, from the beautiful villages of the countryside to the beach resorts of the Atlantic coast. The Vendee region of France benefits from its own microclimate enjoying around 2,600 hours of sunshine per year, almost as many hours as the South of France. The pool is exclusive to the house and no one else has access to it. Ground Floor Lounge/Diner: large sitting room with Oak Dining Table, four Leather chairs, two Leather sofas, coffee table, 42inch flat screen TV, lamp, cabinet with Bluetooth MP3 speaker, DVD player, English free-view Satellite TV. Mobile Wi-Fi is available for use, but may be limited due to the rural location of the property. Kitchen: with fitted units, Fridge Freezer, Microwave, gas Hob, electric Oven, Dishwasher, Kettle, Toaster. Cloakroom: Toilet and wash basin. Shower Room: Shower, wash basin and heated towel rail Utility Room: Sink, washing machine, iron, ironing board. First Floor One Double bedroom, with wardrobe, drawers, mirror, and bedside tables. One Twin bedroom, with wardrobe, bedside table, and bedside lamp. Cloakroom: Toilet and wash basin Outside Private Swimming Pool, 7.30 x 3.75 metre oval Swimming Pool. One level - 1.2m (no shallow end). Summer cover. Patio and decked area: hardwood outside dining table and chairs, sun loungers and deck chairs. Garden: Good sized lawned private garden and allocated on street parking spot. The guests have access to all areas except the shed. The host lives in the village of Foussais-Payre which is just 2 km away. So he is on hand when needed to advise and answer any questions you may have. The Cottage is located near to the massive forest of Mervent/Vouvant in the pretty hamlet of Payre sur Vendée, Foussais Payre. The cottage is in the heart of the countryside, in the historic hamlet with its protected Lime Kilns and the Tree of Liberty. The “Petite Cité de Caractère” of Foussais Payre is just 2 km away(2 mins by car), which has two small supermarkets, a Bakers, a Chocolate shop, a Butchers, a Bar with restaurant (open at lunchtime) a pizzeria and a Tourist Office. The pretty village of St Hilare de Logés is just 4 km away (4 mins by car), which also has a small supermarket, a Bakers, a butcher and bar. The village of Mervent is just 9 km away (13 mins), which has a larger grocery, 4 bars and 5 restaurants, a tourist office and a couple of hairdressers. The Lake at Mervent, within the forest has many activities including kayaking, sailing, fishing, a small beach, pedloes and there are many signed walks, cycling and bridleways. The “prettiest village in South Vendée” Vouvant is just 11 km away (14 mins), The centre of the village is dominated by the 11th Century church, the Melusine Tower and ramparts overlooking the languorous rive Mere and the charming narrow streets house a plethora of artists’ studios. Vouvant also has shops, bars and restaurants and an English Tea Shop. There are many villages in the surrounding areas with many facilities including shops, restaurants, cafes, even a vineyard making their own wine. The Renaissance town of Fontenay le Compte is only 20 minutes’ drive away (15km) and services include: 2 large supermarkets, several smaller supermarkets, banks, mini-markets, many bar/restaurants, pizzeria, doctors, pharmacies, post office, bakers, butchers, many independent retail shops, a Saturday market, an indoor market and two retail parks. There are museums, a chateau, an arts centre, a cinema, a public swimming pool, go kart track and many more activities. The major city of Niort is just 35 mins away and La Rochelle an hour’s drive away and the Atlantic beaches are just over an hour and fifteen minutes away. There seems to be an almost boundless choice of sporting and leisure activities to take part in in the surrounding area. You can explore the region on foot, by bike and on horseback along the hundreds of kilometres of clearly marked paths and bridle ways. Fishing, swimming, sailing and other water sports are offered on the rivers and lakes and at the coast. For those with a little more adrenalin there are opportunities for paintball, go-karting and bungee jumping. PLEASE NOTE we have a minimum 7 night stay, Sunday to Sunday, in July & August. The pool is for the sole use of the guests. It is not shared with anyone else.
