Bala Lodge - all the home comforts
An old hunting lodge located on the edge of the moor with beautiful views and access to walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, river swimming within minutes, and only a thirty minute drive to the coast. Bala Lodge is a contemporary apartment on the first floor with access to its own garden area. There are 2 bedrooms one with a kingsize bed and one with two singles. The apartment has just been fully refurbished with all the amenities needed for a holiday; A large open plan lounge with dining area, flat screen SMART TV, Kitchen with oven and hob, microwave dishwasher and refrigerator. Bathroom with bath and shower and washing machine. Guests have unrestricted access to the whole place, the apartment is situated grounds that include a woodland, and pasture, guests are welcome to use all the open spaces and visit our Pinewood sheep and Chickens. Children (and adults) can collect eggs in the morning and also feed the pigs, and all are welcome to use the fire pit in the woods. A parking space is available for the apartment and is located at the top of the drive. There is a gate across the top of the drive to ensure small children stay within the garden area. We live on site and are around to offer advice, assistance and recommend short or longer walks, favourite beaches restaurants and pubs, river swimming pools, towns, villages, markets, however the apartment is away from the main house so if you are looking for seclusion we will be happy to leave you to your own devices. We make everything easy for you (keys are in a key safe so you can arrive at your convenience) and we generally leave you alone...unless you need anything! Shipley Lodge is situated on the edge of Dartmoor, with miles upon miles of natural beauty to explore, providing a great base for walkers, with wonderful trails on Dartmoor starting from the door. A bit further away your spoilt for choice with beaches, restaurants and local attractions. If your into outdoor pursuits there is climbing canoeing cycling walking, and lots more on our doorstep and for the very brave we will be happy tell you the best places for "wild river swimming" but you might want a wetsuit for that. It is best to have a car to see the area, It’s a short drive to: Buckfast Abbey, Butterfly & Otter Sanctuary, Steam Railway to Totnes, Ashburton (Ashburton Cookery School), Riverford Farm & Field Kitchen and Dartington Hall. Totnes is 7 miles away. Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge are all about 20 miles and there are lots of beaches / coast walks / towns / restaurants and pubs are within 10-40 mins drive Exeter airport is a forty minute drive, Totnes station (mainline from London) is fifteen minutes and Plymouth station is twenty five minutes drive. Car hire is available from Totnes station and taxi's are also available.
