The villa is a restored stone building. Its 100m2 area includes 3 bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom with toilet and a dining and kitchen area with a rustic bread oven. The terrace - perfect for relaxation and BBQ - provides spectacular views towards the mountains. You can also enjoy a garden with many fruit trees. In central Portugal, 40 miles from Coimbra, the mountainous area of Beiras is still protected from mass tourism. Between the Atlantic and the Serra de Estrella mountains the area will charm nature and culture lovers. Located at the foot of the Serra de Açor mountains, Barril de Alva is a central Portugal village full of character. Quiet in winter it comes alive in the summer. There are bars and restaurants and a small grocery shop. Many river beaches are located along the rio Alva. The beaches of Coja and Avo have full amenities (lifeguard, sandy beach, bar) while the Urtigal beach in Barril is more remote. You can reach it walking 25 minutes from the house. The protected area of Mata de Margaraça and the Benfeita waterfall are also beautiful places for walks. The local stone villages tour (including Piodao) is close and provides wonderful mountain views. The village is located between the ocean (Figueira da Foz beach is one hour by car) and the mountains. Serra de Estrella and its ski trails are only 60km away. The beautiful cities of Coimbra (Unesco world heritage site) and Viseu are also easily accessible. Porto and Lisbon can also be visited and are respectively 3 and 4 hours by car from Barril. The village is therefore a good starting point to visit north Portugal.
