Idyllic, family-friendly mountain cabin "Seidl"
Forest house from a fairytale. Once a foresters' home now available to you, with the magnificence of the surrounding nature, a mountain stream, beautiful bread oven and a quick access to neighbouring spa and ski resorts, to the biggest climbing site in the country, to Celje, Laško and other sights. It is big and roomy, accommodates up to two families or a group - also known as: Forest house Seidl. IMP.: tourist tax is not incl. in the price, it is paid on the spot: 2.5 eu per adult per night. The house has a very pleasant atmosphere: it has two bedrooms, two chill-out rooms, a big rustic kitchen and a bread oven to make your delicacies in it or just to chill and warm yourself on in the colder, beautiful autumn and winter days - and a biiig cellar with table tennis. It is ideal for cooking enthusiasts with all the equipment for rustic and modern indoor (wood-fired oven and a gas stove) and outdoor cooking (goulash/stew fire pot, sač - a kind of a dutch oven, grill, firepit etc.) you will never run out of options to create. The surrounding forests and hills offer a treasure of cycling and hiking oportunities: - famous Laško spa is 15 min away by car (must-try) - biggest natural climbing site in the country, 5min away with a car down a forest road - beautiful prealpine meadows, forests, views and ridges surround the hut - famous sights in this part of Slo within an hour drive away (Ljubljana (1h), Maribor, Celje (36min), Logarska valley (1h, 15), Rogla or Golte ski resort (1h), Charterhouse Žiče (45min), Ptuj (1h), Kostanjevica na Krki (1:30), etc.). - It takes about 2h to get to from Zagreb (Croatia) or Graz (Austria) Info: the other 'house' on the picture belongs to the property too - it is actually not a house, but a 150 y.o. granary - nobody lives there :) To the whole house, with the exception of some closets. There's also a table tennis table ;) I'm usually available on my phone. I love to give tips :) The house is solitary, with a big plot of land (2000 sq meters) in the middle of the woods at 800m altitude, and next (30m) to the beautiful views of the valley. It has a great position for families (safe), mountain cycling enthusisasts, hikers, mushroom pickers and climbers (5 minute drive to the biggest natural climbing site in the country, "Kotečnik") or artists on longer projects. SKIING For skiing there is a bunch of great and big ski-places within an hour of driving - Golte, Rogla or Mariborsko pohorje ski resorts, slightly further Kope - or Petzen on the Austrian side. For beginners and children there is a smallish ski-resort, called Celjska koča just 20-30 min drive away. The house is accessible by car, taxi (20min from Celje, 15€) hiking (or cycling) from, say, Laško train station (2h). It's a pleasant, not too tiring hike through the woods. During winter, when there is more than 15cm of snow (car-chains advised!), a normal car ride is only possible 'till the closest farmer, followed by 20min of easy uphill walk through the magic winterland. However, if there is a wish for car access even in deep snow, snow-plough can be ordered, the plough worker usually charges around 75€ to clear the whole road. Tourist tax (2,5 eur per day per adult person and half the price for children) also applies and is collected additionally on spot. The house has all the usual comfort of an urban dwelling (comfort, fully equipped modern kitchen, bathroom, running water, boiler, electricity, mobile phone signal (3G), gas stove. That said, it still is a mountain cabin, so expect a bit of romantic rustic roughness - heating is by wood. And bring proper clothing for the outside. It is possible to raise tents on the meadow and make a camp fire, grill etc. An option on demand in colder days (not always possible, but worth asking) is to heat the house beforehand - somebody goes up and heats it the day before - that is an extra charge of 70 euro. *** With booking at this property you're actively supporting it's maintenance and further ensure the existence of old precious pre-alpine and alpine vernacular architecture in regions and altitudes where it is (due to the changing patterns of forestry and economy) demographically endangered. Thank you! *** The house has quite a history. Built in 1939 as a solitary forest-house for the foresters of a wealthly land-owner (in the place of a previous farm, of which the typical granary remains) it acted as a partisan resistance spot during WWII, where the two forester families often gave shelters to guerrilla fighters evading the occupying army in the surrounding hills and forests.
