Originally stables, the cottage has been converted to one-up-one-down self-catering accommodation. With a double bed, shower, washing machine, sofa-bed and well equipped kitchen. 10 min walk from station, and very close to the shops, cafes etc. There is usually space to park a car on the drive, but be aware that the entrance is a bit narrow. If you come in an electric car we can find a 13A plug for you to charge up. The cottage is around 200 years old and was originally the stables for our house. The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner on the ground floor has a sofa-bed, table and chairs, an electric oven/hob, microwave, kettle, fridge, toaster (plus starter kit of tea, coffee and sugar) and a selection of books and board games. Stairs up to open-plan bedroom with double bed and bathroom en-suite. Sleeps 2 (plus 2) THERE IS NO TV OR DVD PLAYER Secure bicycle parking CD /Bluetooth Player Travel cot/child mattress available on request There is small garden, with seating. Sorry there is no disabled access as the bathroom and main bedroom is upstairs. Our house is next to the cottage so we are on hand and very happy to help with any questions about the area or the cottage. Set in the heart of rural mid-Wales (the land of daffodils and dragons!), Machynlleth is a lovely historic market town with a population of about 2,000. In the town (a 2 minute walk) there are: several cafes and pubs; a wholefood shop; a couple of supermarkets and lots of antique shops. Also a leisure centre (swimming pool, squash courts, bowls rink, fitness suite and sports hall) and an outdoor playground. Notably, apart from the supermarkets, all the shops are ‘independently’ owned. Market day is on Wednesday. There is a fair bit of live music in town - in the pubs and at the Tabernacle. There are also a few drop-in activities to participate in e.g. Table Tennis and Board Games (both once a week) if you want to know more about these please ask us. Machynlleth also hosts a variety of festivals and other annual events. There is a train station (10 minutes walk from the cottage) with good connections to Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Birmingham (New Street and International Airport), London, Aberystwyth, Aberdyfi and the Llyn Peninsula. There are also buses to Dolgellau, Newtown, Aberystwyth. For cyclists the town is well placed for off-road exploration in every direction on a fine network of bridleways, byways, forest tracks and quiet lanes and is also on Cycle route No.8. There are lots of good walking trails – with plenty starting in Machynlleth. 10 minutes walk and you can be into the surrounding hills. In fact Glyndwr’s Way goes past the front gate. The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) (an excellent day out) is about 2.5 miles out of town (accessible by bus, bike or walking). Aberdovey (with its wonderful vast sandy beaches) is about 9 miles away. Aberystwyth (where there is a vibrant Arts Centre with a cinema, 2 theatres, exhibitions, café, bars etc.) is 18 miles away within easy reach by bus or train. Arrival and departure times by arrangement, we are fairly flexible depending on previous and subsequent bookings. Normal times would be depart by 10 am and arrive from 4 pm. Bedding and Towels, we would appreciate If you could strip your bedding and put it and your used towels in the linen bag which is under the bed. That would be a great help and would minimise any COVID risk to the cleaner. Basic price is for 2 people. If you come by train or bike we can offer a discount. Hand and shower towels, pillowcases, sheets, duvet covers, tea towels and bathmat are provided. If there are young children in the party please bring waterproof sheets. You are requested to bring your own beach towels, though if you ask us for some we can usually provide some extra towels for the beach. There is a supermarket less than a minutes walk away, which is open from 7 a.m. til 10 p.m. Mon to Sat and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. It's like having your own personal food-store - and it's good to shop local.
