It is situated near the famous Potami waterfalls, the river runs past the edge of the garden down to the sea. Potami beach is a 2 minute walk and two of the islands most unspoiled beaches Mikro and Megalo Seitani are over an hours' hike away along an old coastal footpath. The lower level of this two-story country villa has a large living room, two double bedrooms, with dual aspect windows, a large kitchen, bathroom, as well as a terrace with seating area at the entrance. The upper level is accessed by a staircase in the kitchen leading to a mezzanine style third double bedroom with dual aspect windows and access onto a large balcony with breathtaking views over the river canyon, and the Genoan castle or Kastraki of Panagia Potamiou in the distance. In the northwest of Samos, 6 km from the city of Karlovasi, you will find the Potami area one of the most beautiful and popular parts of the island. Up a winding trail, the famous waterfalls of Potami pour into a narrow river canyon of outstanding natural beauty covered in a dense forest of trees, ferns and other plants. If you love nature and adventure, you will adore this place. There is a signpost saying Potami waterfalls, follow the cement road, after 100m the road ends in front of the Byzantine church of Metamorfosis tou Sotiros (Transfiguration) (11th-14th century) the oldest in Samos. There is a lovely trail alongside the river with little wood bridges crossing the river from one side to the other leading to a small lake. The foliage creates cool shaded areas to walk in and you may spot birds, lizards, dragonflies and butterflies in this beautiful natural haven. Water shoes and swimming clothes are essential to wade or swim your way through the cold water which can reach over a metre, to the lower waterfall, as well as a waterproof bag for any valuables or camera. The braver few can climb up the rocks and walk a few hundred meters through the river to the upper levels of falls. The next few falls have rope aids to help your ascent. Alternatively you can bypass the rock/rope climbing and take the challenging climb not for the faint hearted up the steep rickety twisting wooden staircase to the upper falls where you will find a rustic hillside taverna Archontissa where you can relax, admire the breathtaking views and enjoy a very well deserved cool drink and bite to eat. The hike down the falls is moderately challenging, like canyoning at points, you need to climb down wet rocks, with a rope and jump. After your waterfall adventure you can make your way back to relax on the pebble beach of Potami for a few hours on free sunbeds if you purchase food/drinks from Potami or Hippy’s beach bars or enjoy the relaxed ambience and comfortable surroundings of Café Del Mundo. All are wonderful spots to enjoy watching the sunset. Ideally you will need a car to get around Samos. There are many good walking trails in the area and information of these can be provided to guests on their arrival.
