Welcome to my home The Cults, meaning in the Gaelic language “the wooded hollow by the river”. Located in the beautiful valley of the River A’an (Avon) overlooking the river and towards the high tops of the Cairngorm mountains. Situated on the A939 some 800 m from the centre of the village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands. Grantown on Spey is some 19km away, 38km to Aviemore and Inverness airport is 72km. Tomintoul sits on both the Castle Trail and the Whisky Trail. Our home is a traditional historic farmhouse sensitively modernised by its Architect owner. A large lounge / dining room faces south over a large fenced garden; with stone flagged terraces to enjoy the views to the river and mountains. There is free wi-fi(fibre optic); Sky TV with Sports, DVD player and a selection of traditional board games. The large selection of books are to be enjoyed but please do not remove from the house. A modern fully equipped kitchen with an Aga(Electric) ; fridge/freezer; dish washer and breakfast bar. There is a utility room with washing machine and dryer. There is Level access to the ground floor dB bedroom and adjacent large shower room. The first floor has 3 dB bedrooms( one is the master suite), one db bedroom has 2 single beds, a large family shower room with large bath. The master suite has an en- suite shower room. The whole house is available for guests, with terraces and garden, apart from a private room used by the Host when he is not travelling. There is ample parking in the cobbled and paved courtyard and additional space to the front. We are contactable by email; text to (Hidden by Airbnb) . I love living here because of the peace & quiet, the beautiful views of the ever changing colours of the countryside and the amazing views of the stars at night. The village of Tomintoul is a “Dark skies” location making star gazing easy. The village has good shops, including the famous “Whisky Castle” with largest collection of malt whisky in Scotland, restaurants & cafés, and is only 10 - 15 min walk. A doctors surgery and paramedic and ambulanceare located in village. Royal Deeside,Ballater & the Queen’s residence at Balmoral is a 30 min drive through beautiful scenery. Inverness & Loch Ness are 50 min drive. Walking paths, mountain bike trails, golf courses, skiing in winter, fishing in the River Avon for salmon & sea trout are all available locally or within 30 min drive. The house is located on the A939 road, part of the Castle Trail & Whisky trail. You can visit many historic castles & Whisky distilleries with excellent visitor centres. A 35 min drive to Rothes to visit the award winning design of the Macallan malt whisky visitor centre is recommended. A car is essential for access and to enjoy this wonderfully scenic part of Scotland. Inverness airport is 50 min drive & has car hire; Aberdeen airport is 55min drive. Trains from London, Edinburgh & Glasgow serve Aviemore which is 25 min drive from our house. There is room for outdoor clothes shoes and boots in the vestibule cupboard. Please do not wear outdoor shoes indoors. Please bring slippers.
