Wild Camping Paladini consists of a 6-metre diameter yurt tent sleeping up to four people in an ancient chestnut forest located between Castiglione di Garfagnana and Chiozza. There is a fully-equipped outdoor kitchen (shared) just outside the yurt, a solar shower and two compost loos located 100m from the yurt. Come and meet our sheep, donkeys and hens and help yourselves to eggs at breakfast time. Wild Camping Paladini consists of a newly built 6-metre diameter yurt tent with sleeping arrangements for up to four people. The yurt is spacious and contains a wood-fire stove with a hob for slow cooking, a desk, electricity and a basic wifi service. There is a fully-equipped kitchen shared with other campers not far from the yurt, with four-ring gas stove, running water (suitable for drinking) and plenty of work top space for preparing food. You may also use our communal fire place for grilling or for cooking from the pot. There are two solar-heated showers at Paladini - be prepared for warm showers as opposed to hot. The showers are located in private areas in the middle of the forest. There is a dry-compost toilet also in the forest - please check with caretaker on how to use. A mobile supermarket comes to the area (near the car park) every Tuesday, and there is a very basic shop in Chiozza along with a well-known pizzeria. Castiglione has more choice and an excellent bar and restaurant - c. 40 minutes on foot through the forest. New for 2020 'The Saloon' - a chill out room to escape the rain or the sun in the middle of the day - equipped with comfortable seating, games and stunning views. The other part of this building is used for drying chestnuts - check it out every October. The yurt will be open upon arrival with the key on the desk. Please let us know your expected time of arrival so that we can be at hand to welcome you. We are (almost) always available to help you out with your arrival, suggestions for walks and places to eat and to answer any questions you might have. Wild Camping Paladini is ideal for those who love nature, walking, good food and slow-cooking. At present the only loo is outside and is not covered - so an umbrella would be handy. The surrounding area is of unsurpassed beauty with medieval tracks starting right from the door to the surrounding villages - uninterrupted by main roads. The whole area feels like Italy 100 years ago with elderly people tending to the land, all houses made of stone, ancient forests and superb places to eat for incredibly good value. The villages of Castiglione, Chiozza and Sillico are all reachable on foot, as is Castelnuovo (at a push) and Pieve Fosciana with its free sulphur shower at 38 degrees. There is plenty of wild-life in the immediate vicinity of the yurt. You will definitely hear or see some of the following: owls, cuckoos, deer, boar, foxes, badgers and wolves (latest sighting of these August 2016). Public transport is very sparse but if you are traveling without a car we can help you with lifts to and from the station (usually) and there is plenty to do an see on foot.
