The Art house, charming wine maker's cottage, sits in an exceptional position in the heart of Southern Burgundy, just a few minutes from Chalon-sur-Saône. The property is set in a beautiful and breathtaking landscape surrounded of vineyards hills (Mercurey) and medieval traces. Since 2015 Burgundy « climats » are inscribed as Unesco world heritage. Interior: The double bedded self contained flat provides a couple of persons with all peaceful and comfortable environment (central heating and private courtyard). It proposes a cosy living room with pellet stove, a dining room and a fully equipped kitchen, 1 bedroom, a styled bathroom, a music and library salon with music instruments available on request (guitars, electronic keyboard, etc). A special attention has been put with art pieces disseminated to decorate each space of the house. In the Art's house kitchen in addition to the premium range chef cooker 5 gas burners « Lacanche » , you will find a large extractor fan, a dishwasher (Bosch), 1 large refrigerator (Liebherr) including a freezer, a microwave oven, an electric coffee maker, a toaster and an electric kettle. Breakfast around the moroccan shaped table and wall tiles will turn your resting times into memorable affairs! An assortment of our garden herbs, spices and condiments are also at your disposal as are dishwasher and washing machine products. The glasses, crockery and cutlery are at your disposal in the sideboard. Wi-fi internet connection is available for your laptop computer and smartphone. Books and board games in the salon are at your disposal during your stay. The stone walls add to the charm of the place and will fascinate lovers of Burgundy buildings. In bedroom and salon we have kept wooden parquet floors. The decor and furnishings have been selected with utmost care and the result is a mix of traditional and contemporary styles related with the long last tradition of a travelers' family. Stylish and fitted with your comfort in mind, the bathroom has a WC (tiled with Jordan mosaic), a washing machine (Siemens), and an Italian shaped shower as well as a heated towel rail. Towels and toiletries are provided on arrival. Grounds : Situated at the end of a private street, few meters from a romanesque church, the Art house welcomes you. The living area opens out onto a private courtyard with terrace creating an extremely green and sociable space to enjoy. Surrounded by hedges, greenery and old trees, the Art house offers complete privacy to its guests who will not be bothered by any kind of noise (except birdsong). Being situated on the last hill before the Saône valley, the view from the terrace provides you with more than hundred kilometers landscape which some day can offer the panorama of the Alps chain (included « the Mont Blanc »). You will spend hot afternoons lazing on one of the sun loungers. The garden table and chairs allow you to have lunch and diner on your private terrace. On request a special place for « pétanque » is available in the garden and we will be pleased to help you learning to play this typical french bowls game . The nearest town is Mercurey (1km) which has a few shops and restaurants, a pharmacy and a super market open 7 days a week. Chalon sur Saône with several superstores is 11km away. The historic town of Beaune is only 30 km away and the wine route is on the bottom of the hill. Would you like to have a walk on the Compostela way, you will find it few meters away from the house. Chalon sur Saone and neighboring cities are known for hearty dishes that borrow from traditional Burgundy cuisine. A special area of the city (l'Ile Saint Laurent) is offering tenth of restaurants disseminated along a pedestrian street in a very typical area. The food here is consistently good. No matter where you eat, make sure you drink some of the amazing local wines. If you have a little more time, a trip to the Côte chalonnaise, Côtes de Beaune, Côtes de Nuits and Beaujolais wine country is worth the hour-long car ride. You can do some serious wine sipping surrounded by picturesque vineyards. Full access to the entire house and its private courtyard including car place. When arrived at the hamlet of Touches, you will immediately fall in love with the medieval church and the special atmosphere offered by its unique eight-sided bell tower. Its recent renovation makes it today the lighthouse of the Côte Chalonnaise . Its history is linked to that of the Knights of Montaigu who lived in the castle perched on the nearby hill, where the ruins saved by an active association await you. The alleys winding between the walls and the stone houses will be the object of your walks at sunset (or sunrise), to appreciate the Burgundian architecture of the local houses. The view overlooking the Saone Valley and the surrounding vineyards is unique. For those interested, l "Artelier" place of creation can open its doors, or even welcome you at a concert or a theatrical evening. You need a car (or bikes, motorbikes) to reach the Art House. If needed we can pick you up at one of the nearest train station (Chalon sur Saône or Le Creusot-Montceau TGV) and help you to rent a car. Things to do: Private wine tasting at our friend Yves at "des vignes et des hommes" in Chagny (12 km) and at « le caveau Divin » in Mercurey (1km) and on request in private cellars. Eglise de Touches - few meters form Art house enter- brings you in the mysterious period of middle age. The special shape and atmosphere of the church will bring you few centuries backward and make you feeling the strong skills of architects and stonemasons. Chateau de Montaigu ruins - have a short walk on the next hill and discover the traces and ruins of a medieval castel devastated after the French revolution. Gorgeous walking/cycling in the wineyards all around the hill. Château de Germolles (3 km), can be reached even by foot. In 1380 became the residence of Margaret of Flanders (Philip the Bold' wife) who invested for its renovation and embellishing. The château of Germolles was one of the favourite residence of the Burgundy ducal court until 1401. Givry (6 kms) - Green Way. From Chalon-sur-Saône to Charnay-les-Macon, tens of kilometres of old railway track converted into a flat Green Way which lends itself perfectly to cycling, rollerblading or simply walking. Cormatin and Cluny can be reached through the track. Acrogivry : 6 hectares of oak trees are reserved for adventures in the tree tops. More than 18 circuits and 150 aerial games from young children to tough adventurers. Les Musicaves » World music Festival (last week of June) Chalon-sur-Saône (11 kms). Clinging to its rock, the Château de Couches soars up amidst the green and rolling landscape of the vineyards of the « Maranges ». Today it is possible to visit the chapel, the prison and the square dungeon that goes back to the 12th century. Hospices de Beaune – Beaune (30 kms). Famous for their auction of wines each year. Jazz festival early July. Château de Cormatin (40 kms). Built in the 17th century on the remains of a 13th century castle, the Château de Cormatin is without a doubt one of the most elegant castle in Burgundy. Tournus (Roman church and old city) and Château de Brancion (40 kms) Cluny (56 kms). Cluny Abbey Autun (40 km) - Autun with 2000 years of history is a "must-see" town in Burgundy. The Gallo-Roman remains are still standing: the temple known as Janus, the gates of Arroux and Saint-André, the theatre, ramparts and towers. The Saint-Lazare Cathedral is erected in a Clunisian style from around 1120.
