Our house (Calderbank Dairy) was the village dairy in the 1700’s so it’s quirky but beautiful whilst retaining its original character. The property has been extended and modernised over the years and has recently been refurbished ready for guests. Mid Calder is a beautiful village roughly 15 miles West of Edinburgh and has fantastic transport links. Our house is at the entrance to the Almondell and Calderwood county park and there are plenty of scenic walks so your furry friends are welcome too. You will be staying in our 1 bedroom annexe that forms part of a 4 bedroom, detached villa. You will enter the annexe via a private entrance into an open plan Kitchen & Livngroom. The lounge has a 4 seater sofa and a drinks cabinet where you can help yourself to a 'wee dram' or two and leads through to a wonderful open plan kitchen/diner. The Kitchen has a fridge/freezer, oven, electric induction hob, slim line dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The diner has a beautiful dining table that will seat up to 6 people. Upstairs there is a stunning space comprising of a double bed and a shower room with hand basin and W/C. You will have access to a utility cupboard in 'bothy style' hallway where you will find an iron, ironing board and lots of fresh towels. The property benefits from underfloor heating throughout. Our front walled garden contains a mixture of mature plants and trees, lawn and a mono-block entrance driveway provides you with generous off street parking. We live on site and have stayed in Mid Calder for many years. We would be only too happy to walk you through the village to help you become familiarised with your surroundings. We will recommend local walks, places to eat and drink, places to explore (and places to avoid) as well list places of interest for you. We will be as hands on or hands off as you would like us to be and we want you to treat our house as your home for the duration of your stay. For folk looking to stay for extended periods, we will agree a suitable time with you for us to access the annexe to change the sheets, give the house a clean and replace necessities. Mid Calder is a traditional and popular village situated 15 miles west of Edinburgh. The village itself offers a good range of local facilities including restaurants, pubs and a post office. It has a thriving village community and nearby Livingston offers every possible shopping facility, including the Almondvale Shopping Centre and McArthur Glen Designer Outlets plus additional amenities comprising swimming pool, gyms, multiscreen cinema and numerous cafés and restaurants. Our house lies in a sought after location with the Almondell and Calderwood Country Parks on the door step, offering excellent river walks alongside the River Almond, fishing (permit required), cycling and riding trails. For the more enthusiastic walkers or cyclists amongst you, you can follow the river Almond to the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal and reach both Glasgow and Edinburgh Mid Calder is serviced by 4 buses every hour taking approximately 40 minutes to reach the Scottish Capital. There is also a train station 2 miles away at Uphall where trains every, 10 minutes, will have you in Edinburghl in under 15 minutes and Glasgow in 40 minutes. Despite Mid Calder being a commuter village, it is completely surrounded by open countryside and therefore boasts a quiet, almost rural environment. Edinburgh International Airport can be reached using the very accessible M8/M9 motorways in around 15 minutes The only thing that might impact your stay is our (at the time of writing) 8-week-old Labrador. He has already become part of the family and loves playing and people but don't fret, you will not see (or more importantly) hear him if you are not a fan of dogs.
