Beautiful, extensively renovated, detached bungalow in lovely, historic village. Perfectly situated with easy access to country walks and Falkland Palace which is a few minutes away. Contemporary in style with stunning views of Falkland Hill from private, enclosed garden. Ideal for hill walkers, golfers, country lovers, those interested in Scottish history, fans of Outlander TV series. We are happy to welcome one well-behaved dog. Please tell us if you plan to bring a dog so that we can discuss its needs in advance and be suitably prepared. The property is a detached bungalow which sleeps 4. It consists of a beautiful, brand new, open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area, two double bedrooms, one with an ensuite shower and toilet and there is also a separate bathroom with bath, shower and toilet facilities. A beautiful, modern, contemporary kitchen is available with all utilities provided. Savour the wonderful, ever changing scenery with spectacular views of Falkland Hill which dominates the background and relax with a glass of wine on the patio and enjoy the exquisite, enclosed garden. After contact, we shall keep in communication as often as required and will meet and greet you on arrival. During your stay, we will be next door, in our neighbouring studio, and will be on hand to help out with any issues. The property resides in the beautiful, historical village of Falkland, situated at the north foot of Falkland Hill, in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife. Falkland is small but picturesque, with traditional craft shops, quaint cafes, restaurants, pubs, hotels and lodges. Its unique charm and history led to Falkland being recognised as the first conservation village in Scotland. Architecturally the burgh is of great interest with many houses being over 300 years old having the thatched roofs replaced with pantiles. The layout is typically medieval with main street and narrow cross wynds. Falkland Palace was built by King James II, one of the finest examples of French renaissance architecture. It was built to accommodate the royal court and used mainly as a hunting lodge. Fire destroyed the east range of the palace in 1654 and the court never returned. The National Trust for Scotland restored the palace in 1954. Britain’s oldest tennis court was built here in 1539. To the west of the village is the beautiful Falkland Estate. The Estate covers around some 1900 hectares, just under one-fifth of which is wooded, with the rest divided between arable farmland on the low ground and rough grazing on the hills. More than a third is an important “designed” landscape whose major elements date from the 19th century. Falkland Estate is today a place of recreation for its many visitors. It has a network of pleasure walks from the Victorian and Edwardian periods as well as fascinating buildings such as the Memorial Chapel, the Tyndall Bruce Monument and the Temple of Decision. Situated next to the Falkland Estate is The Pillars of Hercules. This is lovely organically farmed land with its own cafe, open daily 9-5 serving delicious meals, cakes and coffee. There is also a farm shop open daily 9-6 with a great selection of fresh organic fruit, eggs and vegetables as well as wholefoods, home baked breads, meat, dairy products and gluten-free food. Recently, Falkland was used as the setting for scenes from the TV series, Outlander. The village also hosts a tennis club, a cricket club, a nine hole golf course, a local amateur football club and a bowling club as well as a small Farmer's Market selling the best and freshest of the local produce. Falkland is a great place for dog lovers. A few of the pubs and local shops are dog friendly and there are many fantastic walks in the area. Falkland is a perfect, central location for exploring Scotland. 60 minutes from Edinburgh, with its castle, festivals and Tattoo and 30 minutes from St. Andrews, the home of golf, lovely beaches and its iconic university, castle and cathedral. The nearest railway stations are only 5 miles away and open up the rest of Scotland. The beautiful scenery and the history of the Highlands is less than 2 hours away. You will have access to all areas of the property apart from 2 bedroom cupboards and a small box room used to store personal items. You will also have access to the full garden and off-street parking for several cars There is wifi in the property available for guests to use and tea, coffee and simple breakfast items will be available. The whole property has been lovingly restored and renovated over the last couple of years which means everything is up to a very high standard, particularly in the open plan living area. (it is our own family home when not rented out). This also means that guests will be liable for any damages caused during the stay due to failure to comply with the house rules or otherwise and we ask in particular that no outdoor shoes be worn in the main house. Particular care needs to be taken with kitchen worktops especially with hot pans etc. We are opening up the family home we love ourselves and simply ask that you respect it as if it was your own home (and have a great time visiting Falkland and the surrounding area – it truly is a beautiful place).
