Cosy attic flat in traditional Glasgow-style tenement in Ardbeg on the Isle of Bute. Sea and countryside views, a two-minute walk to the ocean, next to bus stop for guests using public transport and across the road from super-friendly village shop. Well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds and sofas, an eclectic library of books, shower (no bath - sorry) and a desk looking out to sea in the big double bedroom - the muse will definitely strike if you come here to finish your novel. Dogs are very welcome! The flat is still a bit of a work in progress - currently the bathroom sink is cold water only (the shower provides hot water, obviously, and the kitchen sink for washing dishes). Dogs are welcome and throws provided so they can lounge on the sofa with you - I know what it's like to have a dog who's allowed on the sofa at home so won't settle if the rules are changed when he's on holiday. I live in London but have lots of friends on Bute. (My parents lived there for many years and my grandmother before them). There's a key safe at the door but if you run into any problems I'm always available on the phone to sort them out and my local friends can step in to help too. Ardbeg is two miles from the town of Rothesay (a lovely walk along the sea shore) and a mile and a half from the village of Port Bannatyne (another pretty stroll along the shore). There's a friendly shop and, two minutes away, the Honky Tonk, an American-style rock diner and bar that's slightly incongruous but very welcome on the island. My flat is on the main bus route around the island - there's a bus stop outside the front door - and, in summer, you can hop on the bus and be at Ettrick Bay in ten minutes. Look out the front windows and you can see the ferries coming and going - very handy if you're expecting a visitor from the mainland. The flat is on the main bus route around the island - buses are regular all week but a bit intermittent on Sundays. ITaxis from Ardbeg to Rothesay cost £5.
