Kennox is perfect for a family holiday, conference, or reunion. A fantastic location from which to explore Ayrshire and the west coast of Scotland. It's proximity to the championship courses of Royal Troon and Turnberry make it perfect for golfers. A stunning family home, steeped in history with private fishing rights, a tennis court, 15 acres of private woodland, large gardens and duck ponds. Kennox is wonderfully secluded and private, but within very easy reach of Glasgow city centre. Kennox is a 17th century baronial mansion house in the heart of Robert Burns Country, yet with very easy access to Glasgow which is just 30 minutes away with a twice hourly rail service directly into the city centre. Kennox is truly magical, it's one of the very few Grade A listed houses in Ayrshire. Steeped in history, the ancestral home of the Macalister Clan, was built by the Earl of Sommerville in the early 18th century. Kennox is the perfect place for a family celebration or gathering. It's a perfect base for golfers as its close to both Troon and Turnberry with their world famous championship courses. Fishermen would love it too, as we have a stretch of the Glazert Burn running through the grounds with slow pools and fast waterfalls. Back inside, Kennox comes complete with probably every kitchen appliance you can think of, from a Nespresso machine to an Aga. Don't panic! We also have an electric oven if the Aga proves too much of a challenge, although everyone always wants to try it at least, it's all part of the country house experience! As well as a couple of huge BBQs , there is a fire pit and loads of garden furniture, a hot tub over looking the river with seating area and cushions and blankets for cozying up outside in the evening. We have. Fantastic 60 metre woodland zip line , a children’s fort and outdoor playground , and loads of bicycles for on and off roading . Kennox house is on 3 floors, with 2 en-suite bedrooms both with freestanding bath tubs in the bedrooms at the top of the house on the 2nd floor , and then the rest of the bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on the 1st floor. At ground level we have a cosy snug/family room with a wood burning stove, a huge 65" TV for watching all those DVDs and box sets you never get time to watch at home, a lovely relaxing drawing room with an open fire complete with a baby grand piano, a Billiard Room complete with full size snooker table, as well as a couple more loos/cloakrooms, an enormous kitchen and a lovely dining room which seats 12 ( or a lot more at a squeeze the table is over 3 metres long ). Kennox sits within 5 acres of gardens and lawns. There are also 15 acres of wild woodland on the other side of the bridge over the river with deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels, all sorts of birds including a heron and we have been lucky enough to spy the occasional kingfisher. We have an all weather private tennis court with a small pavilion, as well as greenhouses which if you are here when the produce is in season please feel free to help yourself to tomatoes/basil /rocket etc..totally yummy! The house is available as a full house rental so you have access to the whole house and it's grounds including the river ,woodland garden and forest. The' Housekeepers' apartment is totally self contained and accessed via a separate entrance . There will be always be someone not so far away during your stay ( in a totally self contained wing of the property who would be delighted to help or answer any questions you might have , There will be someone here to greet you on your arrival and to show you how everything works. This part of Scotland is full of history and interesting fascinating places to visit from the birthplace of Rabbie Burns Scotlands national poet, a choice of 3 open championship courses and five of the UKs top 100 golf courses including Royal Troon and Turnberry, you can take a trip into Glasgow on the train, spend a day building sand castles on the beach at Troon or Ayr. Learn about the Vikings who once set foot on these very shores ...or jump on the ferry over to The Isles Of Arran or Cumbrae, Culzean Country Park always has lots of exciting interesting exhibitions and events for the kids We are about 30 minutes from Glasgow International Airport, and approx the same to Prestwick international Airport , Kennox is just 10 minutes from the M77 motorway which takes you north straight into Glasgow or south to Ayr. Edinburgh is approx 90 minutes drive from Kennox or alternativly an easy train journey. The train runs daily from Stewarton ( 2 miles away and has a Park an Ride facility) straight into Glasgow with a regular twice hourly service. Should you wish and at an additional cost we can arrange a daily housekeeper, a chef or a chauffeur for you . Just let us know in advance and we will do everything we can to help arrange this for your stay at Kennox.
