La Petite Orangerie - Beautiful Château gîte
Have you ever dreamed of "Escaping to the château" for a holiday in the Charente region in South West France? La Petite Orangerie (LPO) is a comfortable self catering house, situated in the beautiful and extensive grounds of the old Château de Charras. It is a 2 bedroom gite, tucked away in one corner of the stunning 13 acre site. As the name suggests, La Petite Orangerie is part of the original château's orangerie, where fruit and other trees were protected during the winter months. It has been sympathetically converted into a comfortable 2 bedroom house, ideal for family holidays. The extensive and stunning grounds are yours to explore; there is a good sized pool in the old walled garden, carefully protected by a security gate, and a recently refurbished tennis court (racquets in LPO). There is a table tennis table and children's swings. LPO has a private terrace with BBQ and patio furniture, which catches the afternoon and early evening sun. Inside, there is one large room downstairs combining a recently refitted kitchen area, large dining room table and 6 chairs (plus high chair), and a comfortable sitting area with tv. Stairs lead up to the 2 good sized bedrooms and family bathroom. The main bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has two single beds. A cot is also available. LPO is fully furnished with everything you need to relax and enjoy your holiday. If you are here in the winter, there is central heating throughout, plus additional underfloor heating downstairs. The television has both British and French tv channels available. The Chateau de Charras is a complex of around 18 properties - so there is always someone to talk to if you want, but because the site covers 13 acres, you can be totally private as well. You can explore the grounds, picnic in the Orchard, swim in the open air heated pool in the walled garden, play tennis on the recently refurbished tennis court, play table tennis in the Orchard, or just relax on a sun lounger any where in the grounds you would like to! Guests often mix and there are many impromptu BBQs and social evenings. Your English speaking local hostess will meet and greet you on arrival and is available for all enquiries during your stay. Full contact details to be provided upon confirmed reservation. Guests will be required to leave a deposit of E100 with the hostess to cover breakages and this will be returned (minus any deductions for any breakage) upon checkout. Charras is a quiet, friendly village. There is a typical French boulangerie just 2 minutes walk away - great for your French breakfast! The village also has a very well stocked Vival supermarket for essentials. The surrounding area is great for walks and cycling. In addition there is a boules court 200m away from the chateau. The nearby town of Villebois-Lavalette has a large supermarket, restaurants and other amenities. Angoulême (about 30 minutes drive away) is full of shops, restaurants and cafés and has a great atmosphere. As this is a rural area, a car is essential for getting around! There is lots of secure parking for your car at the Château. Guests may unload their cars within the château grounds, but must then park outside the wrought iron gates in the car park at the front of the château. This is for the safety of everyone within the chateau grounds.
