The Delta Neretva covers an area of approximately 20,000 hectares of which 12,000 hectares in the Republic of Croatia and the rest of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the Delta area, there are some of the European wetland areas included in Ramsar and Bird Areas, as well as the Barcelona Convention, the Mediterranean Special Protected Areas. This area contains the diversity of habitats that form a beautiful and remarkable landscape. Swamps, lagoons, lakes, beaches, rivers, huts (limestone hills) and the mountains make up a mosaic of natural habitats in the Neretva Valley area. Hays, marshy fields, sandy beaches, reefs, karst and caves provide good habitat for various types of plants and animals. The Neretva Valley includes five protected areas totaling 1620 hectares. Jezera Kuti i Parila are proposed as ornithological and ichthyological reserves. Tangerines from the Neretva Valley became popular throughout the former Yugoslavia. Apart from fruits, typical products of Dolina Neretva are home-made wine, brandy and Dalmatian prosciutto. Sport and recreation If you want to enjoy the Neretva landscape, we suggest you several walking and cycling trails. Bicycle trails follow less local roads. Some are asphalted and can be driven by a regular bicycle, some of which are macadamatic and are recommended for mountain bikes. Hiking trails are unpaved roads and forest roads, and some can ride a mountain bike. The tracks are easy to notice but are not always marked.
