Carbost Holiday Apartments are situated in beautiful, rural, surroundings with stunning, elevated views across Loch Harport. The property is newly renovated throughout and should have everything you need to have a fantastic stay on Skye. You will have access to the entire apartment, a decked area and a private garden. In each apartment there is an open plan living room that is light and spacious. There is an ‘Oyster’ armchair, a double sofa bed with removable arms, coffee table, side tables, double French doors with blackout curtains leading out to the decked area/garden and a 40” Smart TV with FreeSat. The apartments feature lots of original photographs, taken around Carbost and interesting artwork. On the other side of the living room there is a fully-equipped kitchen for self-catering. There is lots of space for your groceries including two large storage cupboards and a single fridge-freezer. There is a breakfast bar for dining with four bright, Tolix stools. In the kitchen there is an oven and grill, 2 ring hob/stove, all crockery and cutlery, pots & pans, toaster, kettle, microwave oven, sink and a dual recycling/waste bin. Dish cloths, cleaning materials and kitchen paper are supplied. There is a double bedroom that is tastefully designed and has a large Isle of Skye wall hanging above the bed, created by myself. There is room to store suitcases under the bed and bedside drawers with a lamp on each side, a cactus strip light and an alarm clock. On the wall is a full length mirror and stool for getting ready. There is a wall locker on each side of the bed for your personal possessions and a roller blackout blind. There are 8 sockets in the bedroom including an extra 4 USB ports. Just off the bedroom, there is an ensuite bathroom behind a hidden, pocket door. There is a large rainfall shower with a separate shower head. Finished off with a modern sink and toilet, it’s the coolest room in the house! There is a Bluetooth, LED bathroom mirror with shaver point that you can pair your phone with and listen to your music whilst in the shower. Hand wash, toilet paper, cotton buds/pads, bath towels, hand towels, bath mats and face cloths are provided. I would normally be on site to welcome you to Carbost Holiday Apartments and check you in. If I can’t be there, you will be sent a code in advance for a key box that will let you in and I will catch up with you as soon as I return. I try to give my guests as much privacy as possible throughout the duration of their stay. Carbost village is situated on the west coast of Skye, fairly central on the island. It is home to the world-famous, Talisker Distillery. (Where my husband just so happens to make Talisker Whisky..) Tours of the distillery are available throughout the day. There is an informative visitor centre and a shop to take home some goodies! The Cuillin mountain range being on the doorstep attracts a lot of hill-walkers, climbers and adventurers to the area. The Fairy Pools, Talisker Bay and Glenbrittle Beach are all within a 10/15 minute drive- these prove hugely popular with visitors all year round and are definitely worth seeing. The Old Inn is a great local pub 5 minutes walk away, with delicious food (served until 9pm) and a fabulous selection of local beer/ales/whisky. They host traditional, live, Scottish music sessions Wed-Fri which are a must-see for any music lover. If you want to go slightly further up the peninsula to Portnalong (3 miles), you’ll find the gem that is the Taigh Ailean Hotel and the Munro’s Bar. The food here is exceptional and we can highly recommend visiting here for a good time and top hospitality. You can buy fresh seafood (cooked and ready to take-away) at the Oyster Shed which you can see across the hillside from your apartment. This is within walking distance. You can take a boat trip from the pier in the village; self-drive boats or if preferred, a guided tour to see Skye’s abundant wildlife and beauty from the water. Portree is the nearest town at approx 18 miles away, it’s about a 20 minute drive. You will find a supermarket there as well as other amenities. We advise purchasing your food/shopping before you come to Carbost as most places have limited opening hours. Carbost village has a small shop/petrol station for essentials, a Post Office and a Doctor’s Surgery for any emergencies. If you are travelling without a vehicle, there is a local bus service twice a day although please be aware, there is no bus service on a Sunday. We have a new, local Taxi service, Carbost Cars. Tom is a wonderful driver and he’ll look after you and your requirements. Hitching is popular on Skye and islanders are generally very kind at aiding this. If you decide to do this, please be very careful and aware of any risks. There is so much to do on Skye! This is all local information so you can only imagine how much there is on the entire island. It’s best seen over a few days, which is why we have a two night minimum stay. Anything less, you’d be doing yourself and Skye a disservice! Guests are recommended to bring their own vehicle- Skye is a large island and you’ll want to see all of it. Bringing a car/van/motorbike will really help this. The location is rural/single track roads so please be a courteous driver and allow overtaking wherever possible. We have our 10 year old son living with us on site: Robaidh (pronounced Robbie) and he has a football pitch with a netted goal wall, that I’m sure he’ll try persuade you to play on! Don’t go easy on him if you decide to have a go. He won’t go easy on you.. He is also a very good tour guide so he’ll answer any extra questions you may have. We also welcomed our (lockdown) baby boy, Arlo, in late June 2020. We have a few pets on site so please drive slowly and remember to close the gate at all times. Martha: a 3 year old, Romanian rescue dog. She is a medium sized German Shepherd/Hound cross breed. A little barky but very friendly. Arthur: Dalmatian X Labrador 1yr old- the size of a small horse! Super friendly and loves destroying our garden.. Maisie: Our 9 year old cat, the black and white one. All the animals live in our home across the car park but you may see them at times in the grounds. Feel free to say hello as they are all friendly. The cat is VERY good at the ‘Puss in Boots- I need all your love’ eyes but please don’t let them into your apartment or leave the windows/doors open when you go out for the day or you may discover you have an extra guest for the night!
