The Barn at Weatherboard

Set among an abundant and lively garden, The Barn is our fully detached, unique guest house. The building was originally a fully functional blue stone farm barn but since owning the property we have converted the space into an open plan house, complete with kitchen, bathroom, large living area and two mezzanine bedrooms. The outside remains in its original state while the inside has been decorated with a collection of artwork and objects from our travels overseas. The Barn faces east with beautiful morning light pouring through its floor to ceiling windows. The two private outdoor seating areas are designed so you can enjoy as much of the day as possible in the sweet calm Weatherboard countryside. We have a chook pen and pond on site, which houses a wonderful ecosystem of frogs. The living space is naturally cool during summer due to its thick bluestone walls and becomes a cosy nest in winter with the fire going. The open plan nature of the house makes it ideal for a couple or a few close friends (the only completely private room in the house is the bathroom). We have housed many dinner parties and weekend get-togethers and the barn allows for everyone to feel a part of the fun. The area is very well suited for cyclists. The Avenue of Honour we live on runs approximately 25 kilometres back towards Ballarat, partially serviced with bike tracks and is a great ride. All around are quiet country roads and it is possible to explore extensively on a bike. Weatherboard Hill is directly behind us and we have access for climbing to the top from where there is a magnificent view. ‘The Barn’ is a very special place, we look forward to hosting you! The immediate garden around the barn. Facilities include: -Two comfortable double Beds. - One single futon bed - Double floor mattress if necessary - Full kitchen with gas stove, microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle and basic cooking equipment - Bathroom with basin, vanity and storage space for clothes. The shower is over a freestanding, above floor bath. You have to step over the side of the bath to access the shower. -TV and DVD: some movies supplied - Record player - Wireless speaker - A selection of books - A selection of warm coats and gumboots - WIFI - Wood for the fire a convection heater We may not always be on the premises but will always be contactable and happy to help you with any advice, problems or questions you might have about our property and the wider area. If in residence, we will be completely respectful of your privacy during your stay. Weatherboard is a small community on the Avenue of Honour 25 minutes from Ballarat. The barn is on this Avenue of Honour, set amongst paddocks with a view of shallow Lake Learmonth. There are some wonderful walks/bike rides in the immediate farmland around us and a large beautiful wetland/shallow lake within a kilometre to explore. On the opposite side of the lake (5-minute drive) is the historical and picturesque town of Learmonth with a lovely café, pub, post office, historical society, churches and an art walk along the foreshore. Mt Beckworth, Burrumbeet Lake, Creswick, Clunes, Talbot and Daylesford are all within a short drive and have their own charm to share. The closest large town is Ballarat (20 minutes drive to the city centre), which would make a wonderful day trip with art galleries, wild life parks, botanical gardens, lakes, and the famous Sovereign Hill. The Barn is the perfect, quiet place to stay for a weekend getaway or a longer period with so much to visit close by or alternatively, just relax and think in the clean country air. Please note the following: - Unfortunately at this time we are unable to accommodate children under 12. - The closest shopping complex is on the outskirts of Ballarat (a 15 minute drive away) with a large Woolworths, organic fruit and veg shop, pharmacy and butcher. - The heating is limited to a wood fire and portable electric heaters. Knowledge of lighting and maintaining a fire is essential to keeping the space warm and accommodating. - Bed linen will not be ironed but will always be clean, fresh, aired and comfortable.
