Located in Melukerdee country, we honour the original owners of this land, and we live 12 km south of the quaint, friendly, and historic town of Cygnet, in secluded Kangaroo Bay, part of the Abels Bay complex. Lots of native animals, birds, lovely walks, native plants, bike and boat rides right outside the front door. The hut is quiet and private, lots of private work areas, indoors and outdoors under the extensive verandahs. Good broadband speed as well with free nbn wifi. Comfortable and warm. One large, warm and compact room overlooking Kangaroo Bay. Well insulated, easily heated and cooled with an efficient and quiet air conditioner, although with a super-quiet BigAss ceiling fan is all that is needed for cooling most of the time. Great kitchen with gas hob, stove, microwave & dishwasher. Lots of utensils, storage and well lit preparation & cooking space. Good NBN broadband through aussiebroadband, averages 70 MBS. Lots of cosy workspaces, inside and out under the extensive, sheltered and sunny rear deck verandah. Quiet, secluded & comfortable. The hut is yours to enjoy during your stay. Chris & Catherine may access the vege garden which is directly behind the rear deck of the hut, and which guests are welcome to use for themselves. Everything there is pesticide and chemical free, and there are herbs growing such as parsley, sage, dill, rosemary & thyme. The owners also use the washing machine which is currently located on the rear deck, but only at times convenient to our guests, who can use the machine at any time they like. The owners may need to occasionally need to access the tower which houses nbn and wireless modems, or the cellar underneath the hut, which houses water pumps which are used to transfer water from rainwater collection tanks to storage tanks. Private car parking space just next to the hut. Steps are available or you can go around the back where there is an inclined ramp, if you need to avoid steps. We live next door, can greet guests, are happy to help make our guests stays comfortable and memorable and can assist with ensuring the place is stocked. We do wish to respect your privacy and if we appear aloof it is out of that respect. We are very keen to assist you having a great and relaxing stay. Our three chickens, Soula, Doula and Ruler are far more insistent on meeting our guests and will take advantage of any open doors to come in and say hallo. We live in a secluded bay, with a quiet gravel road that winds around to Egg & Bacon Bay or Mickeys and Randalls Bays. There are many walks to be had including the Mt Echo walk at Randalls Bay. There is a very pleasant short walk right outside the front door through banksia, ti-tree and peppermint eucalypt to Minnie Point, where great views of Port Cygnet and Beaupre Point can be seen over the Huon River. Abels Bay Road winds past our little place and wanders all along the waterfront, past Egg & Bacon Bay, to Randalls Bay. Beautiful bays fine for swimming or walking and with lots of walks between. It's all pretty flat along the road, so excellent for relaxed walking or cycling. Cygnet has lots of food attractions such as the Cannery, the Port Hole, the famous Red Velvet Lounge, the Lovett Cafe and Jackie’s Cafe. There are wineries and world class foodie attractions like Matthew Evan’s Fat Pig Farm. Cygnet produces lots of fantastic food s and new businesses are starting up all the time. Every second Sunday there is a farmers market as well, with bountiful locally grown produce. Wheeled or keeled transport is necessary. Good road to Cygnet, 12 km north. No shops or services nearby. Bikes are OK, but the Channel Highway is narrow and cars speed along. Boats are welcome and a mooring could be arranged with adequate notice. There are many animals and birds who regularly visit the property. Native hens are common and are curious visitors, as are the nocturnal marsupials; pademelons, bandicoots, quolls, possums and the occasional devil and echidna. Possums can make a lot of noise which can be disturbing to the uninitiated, but are quite harmless if left alone. We have had to cage the garden in order to be able to grow things and any breach of the garden fence should be reported to the owners as quickly as possible. Always ensure the garden door is closed and latched, including during the day, as the chooks love to visit it as well. There are an amazing number of birds who visit the garden, and we have resident families of delightful superb blue wrens and rufous fantails who are always to be seen in the garden. Many other birds regularly visit, native hens, currawongs, and lots of summer visitors.
