Fernhill Cottage

Fernhill Cottage, was originally built as a holiday home for the owners, Dr George Paul and his wife Dr. Bini George. The house was inspired by the model of old English cottages of Yercaud built in the early 20th century. The house is built out of rough hewn granite stones furnished with a modern kitchen and toilets. The house has a wooden loft accessed by a spiral staircase and can be used as a bedroom/ recreational area. Fernhill Cottage is so named because of the abundance of wild ferns on the hillock atop which the house is situated. The hosts would like to rent the home stay facility with friendly folk, looking for a peaceful holiday in the hills. The house easily accommodates 4-6 adults. The house has a patio that overlooks a verdant valley of silver oaks and coffee plantations. Sitting on the veranda with a cup of coffee, one can see a breath taking sunrise that makes a colourful display in the sky every morning. The house is surrounded by a flower and rock garden, two acres of coffee (just planted) and fruit trees. In the late evenings there is a crepuscular aura of silence broken only by the cry of crickets and the sounds of the wind in the trees. The climb to the house is about 400 metres of paved roads through the small plantation. The Kitchen is equipped with gas stoves, microwave, refrigerator, toaster and cooking utensils. Drinking water is available through the Aquaguard filter attached to the kitchen tap. The water is a clean source and has a purifier ( RO) and it is not hard water. The host offers complimentary breakfast which includes bread , Butter, Jam and eggs along with one indian breakfast item like Idli/ dosa/ poori, sambhar, chutneys or sabji etc. The caretaker will provide additional services like getting provisions, food etc for an additional negotiated cost. The family cooks hygienic and tasty food which is priced modestly. Guests will have complete access to the property including housing and surroundings. Very occasionally, the hosts may use one of the bedrooms which has a separate access and will not be intrusive to the guests. The home has a caretaker who will provide services like fetching food or provisions. His services are not included in the tariff and can be negotiated with him and the caterers. A list of recommended caterers and other services like sight seeing and treks will be provided. Clean linen, towels, blankets and soap will be provided as part of the package. Laundry services can be arranged for a negotiated payment through the caretaker on prior intimation. In view of the Covid situation, we suggest our guests don't book back to back so as to give our caretaker to air out the place and sanitise it thoroughly before the next guest arrives. Ideally 24 to 48 hrs between guests. Generator is available and will be run to charge the UPS As of now there are no permanent residents in the neighborhood. It provides privacy while being accessible to most tourist spots in Yercaud. The surroundings are wooded with a few scattered guest houses and a temple for meditation at some distance from the property. While there are buses plying on the Nagalur road (about 500 feet away), it is better to depend on personal transportation. Taxis and autos can be availed on request. The care taker will run errands and help shop for provisions Welcome ,  here are  some guest guidelines for Fernhill cottage 1) Check-in time is normally 2 pm and check-out is 11 AM. If we do not have another guest checking in or out at the corresponding time, we are flexible by a couple of hours. While at the property, there is a calling bell provided to call the caretaker. We offer a complimentary breakfast which is a combination of Indian and continental. 2)  You can also cook your meals if you wish to do so.There is a hot plate, utensils, cutlery etc ,provided every thing is cleaned  and kept back where you found it. 3)There are a couple of restaurants near the lake, which is about 3 k.ms from our property. 4) Cell phone coverage is very good with BSNL and Jio. We offer free WiFi (jiowifi),the password will be provided to you. 5) Bonfire can be provided at an additional cost of Rs (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) /night. Barbeque set is available. The cost of use including coal and the caretakers  assistance is Rs (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) The meat/ vegetables and marination needs to be done by the guest. The caretaker Senthil will help. 6) Copy of ID cards of all guests are required at check-in as per regulation. It can be submitted to the caretaker. 7) UPS backup  and Generator backup is available  which is to  be used  judiciously in the events of power failure. 8)The cottage has TV and a good sound system. It should be used with care.  10)  We have a strictly.      " No Smoking policy" inside the house. Consumption of alcohol is permitted, but we expect that there will not be any public disturbance. 11) In case of any damage/breakage an additional cost, as assessed by the hosts, will be levied. 12) You can enjoy the ambience of the 2 acre property but please do not litter and damage the plants.In case of any damage/breakage an additional cost, as assessed by the hosts, will be levied. 13)  Guests are requested to take care of their belongings and to thoroughly ensure that  nothing if  left  behind at the time of check out. 15) For guests staying more than a period of two days, the linen will be changed  every two nights. 16)  The hosts are not responsible for injury or medical problems. Please take care as the grounds have uneven contours and levels, it being a hilly terrain. Very young children should not go up the loft unattended. Have a nice time!
